The (Predicted) REA Decisions Date Info Thread

For ANYBODY who has a question about when the REA applicants find out decisions:

We ('we' referring to the people on the discussion thread, who are asked this question once every page) are aware that the official date that decisions are released is the 15th of December, which this year is a Wednesday.

However, in past years, the Stanford Office of Undergraduate Admission has released the decisions on the Friday before the 15th, via email. This year, that would be the 10th of December- this Friday.

Here is a short pause, which should let you panic properly.

In last year's admission cycle, the decisions were released on the 11th of December; the year before, the date was the 12th. Both of these dates were the Friday before the 15th. I didn't go back to check the earlier years and, so far as I know, nobody else has, either. The time of day that decisions are released has been 3 PM PST, but they seem to be released in waves, so don't freak out too badly if nothing appears after the first hundred or two refreshes.

One caveat: this year, Stanford has a new Director of Admission. In past years, the posts on their website announcing the earlier deadline (these seem to go up earlier on The Day, so don't go rabidly checking just now- wait until Thursday) have described the decision as being an executive decision, so it's possible that the new director will change which day is D-Day. (If he or someone who might tell him reads this, please just remember that it's mean to give your applicants heart attacks or ulcers.)

And a caveat to the caveat: the posts describing the decisions as executive decisions actually name the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid as the person whose executive decision it was. So, on the other hand, it's possible that it will be the 10th regardless!

So, would a lovely mod sticky this? Please?

Bravo Brain Twin! This should put a permanent end to all the incessant queries.

Class of 2012 (three years ago) followed the Friday before pattern and was released on Friday, December 14, at least as far as I can tell from this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/424094-stanford-official-scea-decisions-2012-a-3.html.

Thanks! :D

yes, but all those dates are closer to the 15th. the 10th just seems kinda early

Considering that it’s only one day before the 11th (2009) and two before the 12th (2008), I don’t think it’s a huge difference.

yeah I hope ur right. I don’t understand the caveat to the caveat though, my critical reading skills are not up to par could you elaborate?

@ripemango It is the Dean who makes the executive decision not the director. And as the dean is still there, the previous caveat need not be in place.

cc really needs a “like” button

Penn’s ED decisions are coming out the 10th 3PM EST, and Penn had about 20% increase in ED applications. I think Stanford will be okay, with the earlier date and 7% increase.

rumor on campus is that it’s friday.

Though I kind of work for the Office of Admissions (indirectly, so don’t get your hopes up), all they told us was “decisions to be released in the middle of the month.”

Thanks! :D

Sea Legs: How probable do you think it is that they’ll be released on Friday? Have you seen/heard anything?

campus being stanny!?! OAIDSFKASDFJ god i just. want. to. know.

all Admissions told us was “middle of the month.” The Friday rumor comes from my roommate, no idea his source (he works for the Graduate School of Business’s admissions department, but i doubt there is a correlation). So definitely take this with a grain of salt, this is just something he mentioned casually at lunch hahahah.

UPDATE: An alumni meeting apparently announced to its members that the decisions were coming out on the 15th. I’m personally taking this with a grain of salt, simply because if alumni were told about release dates before anybody else, some legacy would have let on by now. I think that they probably were just reminded of the official release date and made an announcement that somebody took to be official.

On the other hand, there is real potential for this to be true. We’ll know when we can see whether or not they post anything on Friday morning!

^ =/

yeah, I’m hoping that the 15th is just a “safe” deadline that they set…maybe they don’t want to explicitly say anything about releasing decisions earlier? maybe they’re almost done, but don’t want to make it official, in case they end up not finishing by friday morning…

and also maybe because they know that if they give even the slightest hint of decisions coming out on the 10th, people will jump all over it and start freaking out (like us).

one can only hope. xP

BTW last year, on Dec 2nd, they made an announcement that decisions were coming out on the 15th, even though they came out on the 11th…could be nothing, but then again…

rumor from my stanford friend that its this friday. not sure of how true this is but it seems like everyone thinks similarly?

I would prepare for Friday though in retrospect, I have to say it was much better that I had no idea that early decisions typically fall on the Friday before the 15th when I was waiting.
