AngelNikki1- 1510 (750M, 760V) SAT II-750US/760Wr/620Spanish ... Decent ECs: President of a service organization, write for a newspaper (circulation 70,000, sent a sample article), NHS, SHH, Dance, 200 or so hours of volunteer work, held down a job for 2 years. I think my recommendations are good, rank 27/540 in my class, 4.0 GPA, my essay may have been risky but I loved it...I think the only thing I might be lacking on is leadership. What may really hurt me is that I'm from the suburbs of Philly so there's a lot of really qualified applicants!

specktackyoulerr- 1510 (770V, 740 M) 780 Writing, 760 Literature, 750 Math IC. GPA around 96 (school does not weigh grades). Excellent recs from Eng Teacher, Law Teacher, and Prof at University of Toronto (I work for him as a research assistant), all of whom have known me for around 3 yrs. Mediocre GC rec (2 GCs for a school of 1300, so the counselors dont know the students too well). Interview went well-- she said "Columbia would be lucky to have you"-- hopefully this counts for something. Essay on life-altering car accident in ninth grade. Bad ECs because I have had to work 20+/wk (Library and University of Toronto) for the past 3 yrs to help support my family: Environmental Club Executive (member for 3 yrs); Tutor (within school and as volunteer); School Newspaper Co-Founder, Co-editor. Wored throughout all summers and attended one session at the Columbia SHSP. Asian Canadian student, although I have lived in Beijing, NYC and Toronto (I dunno if this will help). Applied for alot fin aid (hopefully CU is truly need blind to Canadians as they promise).

i added some stuff its all lies.

"but if ur essay conveys any of what we know you to be, it could make all the difference" - well opalstar, what do you know me to be..

REALLY enthusiastic and optimistic...my interviewer said the one thing columbia doesnt want are jaded angst-y teenagers

well i may not be best judge on my own essay ..but i think that my whole app in general has this incredibly optimistic feel to it
and i definitely put my eternal optimism and infectious enthusiasm across to my interviewer if that helps..
anyway.. like i said before on this thread.. i'm just gonna wait another 5 days and see what really does happen to me.
we'll see who predicted my fate correctly..

luv that...im a half fuller too so its always nice to see my own kind lol

Plus we have the same SAT score...we're kinda in the same boat admissions-wise

well if you say so..

yes perhaps the SAT scores will work against me.. but i truly believe that IF columbia was not meant for me it wouldn't have mattered whether i got a 1350 or 1600.. IF columbia is not right for me i woulda still got R or D even with a perfect score.

i believe they look at everything collectively.. not one part of the app makes or breaks admission..

i'm just sitting here counting the hours.. and praying for myself and all of you :)

Does anyone know how they factor sports into the admissions process? I played 3 years of lacrosse and two years of football (captain), which will hopefully differentiate myself from other Asian Americans, since I know not many Asians play sports like football and lacrosse.

hmm...i dunno!! I hope they factor it in! I play Tennis, and run Track. fun stuff, right! But I think some of you were talking aobut it earlier in this thread, I read somewhere that one of the main areas that columbia draws its admissions from is California. I think i twas California, Conneticut, New york and some other north eastern states. No southern states. (good for me go NC!!!) and then country wise it was Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago (sp?), and a few others. I found that really interesting.

i hate all of you!!다 저주할꺼야!!

thanks, jskim...feeling the love

whoa korean man, this is an american board.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

freakish no not again!!!

columbia is gonna be carazy

If I;m there.
