The preppiest, happiest school

What are the preppiest, most fun, happiest schools with a great preppy community and tons of upbeat people?

Deerfield Academy.

I second Fireworks. That is the main reason I chose Deerfield over all the others

Deerfield? or… Groton?

Neither… Le Rosey.

It costs 100k a year, you got your preppy. They have their own SEPARATE from campus Ski resort which is among the best in Switzerland, you got your happy (not to mention the numerous other luxuries this school provides… caviar maybe?)…

And a great looking student body (assuming you can afford the make up they wear, the clothes they wear, the hair stylists they use, and so forth)…

All in all I say it’s pretty good. Normally I would say don’t go there but all the kids there end up becoming King of Jordan or shah’s of blah’s… So if you can afford that plus all the crap that comes with it (yeah, clothes) go for it. Chances are your life is set for you and you won’t really need college.

Never choose a school based on such superlatives. Of course you need to see what fits you the best but when you ask for the school which takes it to an unbelievable extreme you lose out on many things…

At le rosey you lose out on…
-A sense of reality
-A ***** ton of money
-Your security (chances are if you are barely coughing up the 100k a year (which in and of itself is laudable) you’re gonna have trouble buying the clothes and keeping up with the joneses))

People will venture and say that schools like Harvard will spit you right out. Firstly, giving a few million dollars is probably no venture for these kids. Beyond that, the education is probably (while not Exeter like) something highly laudable.

Oh and chances are Le Rosey has a bunch of upbeat people. I would if I knew that in twenty years I would be sitting in Buckingham Palace with guards protecting me solely because of my lineage and/or money… :D

Groton is definitely up there for being preppy, but I wouldn’t call it the happiest place.

I wouldn’t natually relate “preppiest” to “happiest” and “most fun”, but maybe that’s the point of OP. She wants to find a school that is preppy yet happy and “most fun”.

fyi PrincipalV, the present King of Jordan went to… ayup, Deerfield. lol

Deerfield!!! I don’t know if its the preppiest, but it seemed really happy to me…and it is pretty pretty because of the formal dresscode. but not in an annoying preppy way haha. in a good way.

It’s definetely the preppiest, lots of people were happy, some people were not. I’m sure it’s the same at a lot of other schools.

^Oh, you could get a lot preppier than Deerfield. You’d be surprised. But given the combination the OP gave, I’d also say Deerfield.

As the schools climb the ranks in terms of overall caliber the preppy index goes down a bit. Mostly because of the more diverse student body.

Of all of the BS’s my son and I visited last winter (which ran into the double digits), it was our impression that Deerfield was the happiest and the preppiest of these 10+ schools. That impression alone made Deerfield one of the top schools on his list, but not necessarily mine. (For what it is worth…which is really next to nothing or worse, we concluded, after our “grand tour”, that the least happy students seemed to be at Exeter…although I liked PEA a great deal, and the least preppy school, if there can even be such a thing in this tremendous group of PREP schools, seemed to be Choate.)

I know what to wear is not all what preppy is about, but Choate acutally has a dress code. I thought Andver was least preppy. No?

I guess that preppy, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. That said, we visited Choate on a school day and toured Andover on a weekend (although my brother attended Andover many moons ago and I often visited him on campus way back when). So our/my sampling and testing of students at each school for “preppiness” was not at all balanced or systematic. Still, we/I found Andover more preppy than Choate. But, like I said, my views here mean absolutely “next to nothing or worse”.

Don’t go to Deerfield.

Personally, I don’t attend the school so my perception might be slightly skewed. But from things I’ve heard Deerfield is (as the thread has been discussing) an extremely preppy school that appeals to a certain…demographic. I’m speaking both racially and socio economically. I understand that they do a decent job of drawing in kids from all over similar to all the other big prep shcools, but there is a certain vibe and reputation that Deerfield carries that just has snobby and pretentious written all over it.

I think the days of such a socially elitist institution are over. Its an anachronism. Oh, and it’s in the middle of nowhere. So you want to talk about happy? How about boring.

You want preppy? Go to Kent. Very white. Very wealthy. Very Prep.

Oh, and not a very good school.

…but great crew at Kent. Ah, ergo, very preppy, huh?

last I heard Kent has been losing the past couple of years…

Andover couldn’t really be defined as “preppy,” but it most definitely is a happy, happy place. All the students are smiling, they all say they LOVE it (even during Upper Spring- the toughest and most stressful time).
For example: when I visited, the fire alarm went off in their brand new dining hall, forcing everyone to evacuate the building into the cold. Normally this would put a damper on people’s spirits, but not at Andover. Instead, a few upperclassmen began leading cheers, and in five minutes the entire student body was yelling for the Big Blue.
