SMU offers the President’s Scholars Award, which covers tuition, room and board, and fees. It is the coveted “full ride” type of award that only gets more valuable as the price tag continues to rise past seventy-thousand starting in Fall '17. As a current Prez Scholar, I am here to answer any questions you may have about the process, or the atmosphere of the school in general for high-achieving students who might have otherwise chosen top-ten schools.
How many students get the award every year and what kind of stats do they typically have?
I know there’s a strict rule that no one with below a 34 ACT or its equivalent are even considered for the prez scholarship.
@Jpgranier - we were told that a 34 ACT is the average, so that would imply that some would have lower and some higher scores.
@essemena2000 - here is the PS website: http://www.smu.edu/academics/PS. Gives you lots of information. Last year, there were 19 students. This year, the number looks around 22 (not sure of final number).
@venidos - did you interview the candidates this year? My son was selected and will be attending in the fall. Any good advice for the first year?
@momoftres one of the deans told me that you need a minimum of 34. 34 is just much more common than 35 or 36
