The Problem With Chance Threads... I Don't See A Way Around It

They're boring.
Even if you've won a Nobel Prize... it's just a line of text. Which a lot of people will end up skipping. They're way too long, even with just basic information. The only way to get everyone to read everything is to be extremely succinct, but that leaves a lot out.

Case in point:
I read one where someone wanted it based on only scores, GPA, and MAJOR ECs. Not the BS dozen of clubs that everyone is in. This person got the feedback that there was too little info.

I have posted several chance threads (don't judge me, I'm nervous just like everyone else). My most recent one included my updated scores (that one made sense).

In my most recent one, the first negative critique was too few ECs that weren't sport-based. My ECs included a JETS Engineering National Championship. This was obviously just skipped in haste. So I drew attention to it... then the next negative critique was that my ECs didn't help people. So I drew attention to the 300+ volunteer hours, including with the homeless and in an animal shelter.

I'm not blaming anyone. I do it too. It's just frustrating to know that no one actually takes the time to read what is most important in your life. I'm sorry to anyone to whom I have done the same.

Vent over.

I saw your thread, and thought similar things when I saw peoples comments.

Another thing, its hard to ‘chance someone’ for top schools- there is a reason they are top schools. Occasionally Ill chance someone with great stats and label Harvard, etc, a reach, and they can’t figure out why I labeled it a reach…

I know. There’s almost no point to even asking about those schools… we all know the answer. It’s a reach for everyone… unless your one of the Obama kids. Then I think you might get some alumni help from Stanford… lolz.

/sigh

and legacy at Harvard…

and that whole URM thing. theyre set for college.

Incidentally, does anyone know Obama’s SAT/ACT scores? I want to know if I beat him. lolz.

yes it really is a shame that not every person is out to fastidiously examine your achievements to stroke your ego when you know you’re adequate already

I think there are some good replies to chance threads amid the many junk/useless/not quite logical posts. If you’re not willing to weed through the junk you shouldn’t ask on this site, ask people you know instead.

I think I caught several SAT vocabulary as I read this thread. I think doing chance threads helps make it easier to complete applications.
