i have read that they administer a prt test upon arrival (sometime around iday) to see if everyone can hack plebe summer. what happens if someone fails it?

its called the ist (initial strength test), its only a mile run (not a mile and a half like the prt), and basically you can't "fail"-you can only improve on your scores. you'lll take a real prt at the end of the summer.

That's a new one. Didn't have that in my day.

thanks for settling my curiousity, wheelah

So no pushups or situps upon arrival, at least to be tested?

Just got back from the local USNA parent's club picnic for the new members of the class of 2010- and happily our son got to meet some of the current mids (and dare I say CADRE) lying in wait!!

WORD OF CAUTION: show up "in shape." Specifically- be able to run 3 miles at a good pace- he told us most runs will be about that distance, a few 4 and 5 milers in there as well- but that there was "little tolerance" for kids who show up "unprepared," "not physically in shape," and "unmotivated." One cadre told us he "couldn't wait" to get his hands on those- and he was dead serious. He said you would be "amazed" and "disgusted" at what shows up on I-day.

As for reef points, we were told that if you can get a head start that was great, but not necessary. Running is necessary.

Forewarned is forearmed! ;)
