The PSAT National Merit Club

Welcome to the 99th percentile :)

We should post our scores and our state cutoffs.
Also, we should have a class system like other clubs. 1st class = Finalist. 2nd class = Semi. 3rd class = Qualified scores (yet to become semi). Of course, if you're a junior like me, you may advance once you get your letters senior year.

1ncognito - 3rd class

my jr got a 222 but he'd kill me if I posted his stuff in his thread. Sorry :(

Oh great yet another place to brag about our accomplishments!!

It's okay though I like bragging
and since I feel awkward talking about this stuff at school I'll just toot my own horn here on CC with the rest of you

CR_ 73
M_ 74
W_ 80

Total 227
MD cutoff 223 last year

hey incognito is that this year's CA cutoff? and to kno for sure if u made the cut-off do u havta b 99th percentile?

Yeah I feel bad about telling my friends this...so I'll just mention it on CC instead :)

1nconito, were you the one with the same SAT score range as me?

Anyways congrats on making national merit. I am still a sophomore this year.

Cute.

CR 70
M 80
W 76

Total: 226 (MD cutoff 223)

Isn't everyone in this club going to be 3rd class until senior year? This thread is going to have to survive for a long time so everyone can update his/her status.

I personally don't qualify, but I know some National Merit semis who are still in the running for finalist status. I think there were 4 or 5 from my grade level (class of '07). Just so you know, one was already accepted into Georgetown EA. Another one got free-rides to Villanova and Fordham. So you people have bright futures based on the people I know.

I would've been commended if my SAT scores = my PSAT scores. The SAT is much more important, so you people really shouldn't get too caught up in the PSAT. Bragging about SAT scores is annoying. Bragging about PSAT scores is just dumb.

sour grapes, hepster? Why come into this thread and then chastize the people who want to enjoy a minute in the limelight. The OP is apparently new to CC. Let him/her have some fun. Chill...

Hepstar, honestly, if you got a perfect score, would you be saying this?

And yes, the SAT is more important, but don't forget...
--->The reason we took the PSAT was to prepare for the SAT.

And you know what? We have the right to brag, and we can, simply because this is something worth bragging about. Do you know how hard it is to achieve a qualifying score? There is nothing wrong with getting a bit of recognition.

Anyway, no hard feelings. Congrats on your SAT score!

You guys won't believe, I got a lower PSAT score than my SAT score and I took the PSAT after I took the SAT. I would have to say the correlation between PSAT and SAT is very small.

PSAT:214~99 percentile
SAT:2330~99.8 percentile

Alabama's cutoff for 2006-07 was 212. I hope it doesn't go up more than two points.

CR - 75
M - 80
W - 74

= 229
NJ last year = 223

229>223 yay

Historically speaking, is 228 on the psat good enough for national merit finalist?

I have the same question as bessie, but with a 225 in CA? Do the cutoffs vary more than 6 points at any given year?

with 228 and 225, both of you are easily semi-finalists. You have a 15/16 chance of making finalist, so you'll probably make it if you put a good effort into the application

218-3rd class sophomore

I got a 223; NY was a 221 last year.

Sorry about the earlier post. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I wast just giving my 2 cents. I also told you about the NM semis from my class who are fairing well in the admissions process to boost your spirits. Notice that I said that you have bright futures.

My comments about bragging weren't directed at all of you. It was directed more at people who blatantly brag (see post #4). It is bad enough when people brag about the SAT. PSAT though. That's just dumb. I know several people who did crappy on the PSAT who did much better on the real thing. I also know people who went down from PSAT to SAT.
