the quad?

what are the names of the different housing systems in the quad? whats the difference between each of them? and do a lot of engineers live in the quad? my dad thinks i should live in hill because its right by the engineering buliding but i really wanna live in the quad!

and congrats to the rd kids :) i was accepted ed.

When it’s cold, I’m sure you would enjoy living in the Quad better. The dining hall is inside as well…

The three houses in the Quad are Riepe, Ware, and Fisher Hassenfeld. I don’t live there myself so I can’t tell you the specific differences.

I am an engineer myself, but I don’t live in Hill or the Quad. Actually I don’t think many engineers live in the Quad. Many of them live in Hill (for the same reason your Dad said); Hill is just a block away from the engineering buildings.

Even though Hill is close to engineering, it has no air conditioning and its rooms are stifling hot during the spring, summer, and part of the fall (believe me, it’s no fun).

And even though the exterior of the Quad is beautiful, most of the rooms are nothing more than glorified closets.

I encourage you to keep an open mind and explore all of the housing options at Penn. Many eager freshman jump at the Quad and regret it after their first semester. My personal favorite dorm is Mayer Hall (where I live) because of its giant rooms and tight community. Yet almost no one knows about Mayer Hall or Gregory or King’s Court. Do some research at [College Houses and Academic Services](http://www.collegehouses.upenn.edu/). Also, ask yourself why you want to live in the Quad. If the answer is “because it’s pretty,” I strongly suggest you look at some other dorms before you submit your housing application.

I live in Hill right now. It’s grimy and hot, but I love it. i was super bummed about not getting in the quad but hill is amazing in its own right and if i had the choice id probably pick it again.

In terms of Quad vs. Hill:

 • quad rooms are hit or miss but generally bigger than hill
 • quad looks much nicer
 • hill has more of a community feel… my friends from the quad always note this
 • hill has the best dining hall and it’s amazing to be able to roll out of bed to go eat

honestly you’d be fine with either though. i know a couple of kids in kings court because of huntsman and they deal with it. i dont really know more than one or two people in the other dorms.

on the website, it says that Hill has “sweet suites.” how many people generally room in these suites–three, four? two?

hill suites are what the halls are called, so it’s more like 20-30 per suite

and i think millhouse means hill, not quad, which is nicer when weather is poor and which has the dining hall inside

I think it’d be cool to do quad for freshman year and then do apartment style living after that, e.g. harrison and rodin
and then maybe live off campus senior year

Does Fisher have private bathrooms in atleast some of the rooms? It has AC and is one of my favs… anyone else thinking of rooming there next yr?

there are no private bathrooms anywhere in quad

and, all quad rooms have a/c

yeah I think fisher is my favorite dorm out of the ones in quad

Yes, I did mean Hill. Thanks tenebrousfire.

In the College Houses booklet I got in the packet, there is a red dot next to in suite bathrooms for fisher… red dot refers to “in some units”
