Egg Crate or Feather Bed?

For making those dorm beds more comfortable, of course.

I'd say feather bed

I got a feather bed (Twin Extra Long!) at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was on sale for 19.99 from 39.99 :) My mom insists on having feather beds on all the beds in the house. After starting out with an egg crate, the feather beds are a great improvement.

memory foam mattress pads are by far the best

This is probably a really dumb question, but what's the difference between a feather bed and an egg crate?

you can feel egg crates....all those little bumpy things

dont know what a featherbed is?

i have a somewhat-related question:

ive been looking at down comforters, and because the least expensive ones are over $150, and since i wont use it after these next 3 or 4 years (i will prob. have a bigger bed), do you think it would be horrible to use the queen size down comfortor i use now (at home)? or would this just be weird looking?
-my dorm bed is twin extra long btw.

Get both... you won't regret it. Put the egg crate under the feather bed and you will have an amazing bed. I have TWO egg crate type pads and then a queen size feather bed folded over in half... that's four layers of padding and all of my friends can vouche that I have the most comfortable bed EVER. Seriously, dorm beds can really suck but if you get enough padding, they can be just as comfortable as the ones at your house.

ustas06, where the hell are you looking?! http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=classic-colors-down-comforter&categoryId=23025&parentCategory=4094&cat4=1158&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&feat=ssdpa1158

A queen sized comforter will probably drag on the floor on the sides of the bed.

Also, do you NEED to have down? Synthetic will be cheaper. If you have to you can add blankets, but the dorms may be overheated anyway.

Go to thecompanystore.com they have AWESOME featherbeds, in twin XL, for much less than $150. Down IS awesome though, the best fill material ever. also remember, you could always use a twin comforter as a throw on a couch or something--or if you ever have kids-- so it won't be a TOTAL waste. You could also try to sell it on ebay. . . yeah thats kind of weird but who knows, people will buy ayhting.

Queen would be WAY too big, you'd probably end up folding it doubled and then it would just be a ton of stuff on top of you and too warm in the warmer months.

Down beds are AWESOME, just make sure you get one with straps to hold it in place, mine is always slumping off to the side, so I am constantly remaking my bed.

Oh my gawd, that sounds heavenly x_x

Try overstock.com or smartbargains.com for inexpensive but quality down comforters.

Yesterday my D bought a single down "blanket" (really a comforter) at Target for $40. They're on sale this week.

Jump on it.

I have a twin bed, and I have been sleeping with a king-sized down comforter in the winters for several years now. My house doesn't have good heating and my room in particular is always cold. When the rest of my house is so cold I have to wear gloves indoors, it's great to be able to climb in to my bed and be wrapped up like a burrito. If it were a twin comforter, there just wouldn't be enough (and I'm tall, but I'm not large)

I haven't decided if I'm going to bring it with me to college yet or not. In a dorm where (hopefully) the heat will work, it might be too hot even when it's really cold outside. Then again, I sleep with blankets year round, because I'm always cold, so maybe it would be good to have, just in case.

I know that my mom bought several of the comforters on sale, for about $40, but I don't know where. It was a few years ago, and it was a clearance sale.

hehe make sure you're not allergic to feather beds before you get one....I always wondered why I didn't sleep well at my best friend's house (feather bed/pillow) and it turns out I'm allergic to feathers.

plus the little feather stick endy things really hurt
