Rice -Low Reach
UT-Austin - Safety
UPenn - high reach
Princeton - very very very high reach
Georgetown - mid reach
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor - match
University of Virginia - Low reach
Oklahoma State - Safety

Agreed. Except for Georgetown.

Georgetown = match

Based on the info I have, I’d say you a shoo-in everywhere except Princeton, UPenn, and GTown, alot of this depends on what you’re majoring in, which is what tryandsucceed has been saying, but I really think you got a great GPA and that NHS Prez stands out!

Thanks for the solid replies guys! I’m looking to study business as an undergrad which is why Michigan, Virginia, and Georgetown are on my list. How do you guys feel about UPenn though? I would really love to get into Wharton. Is it that much a reach for me? :(

Before I can answer that question, please specify:

community service hours

extra curriculars

awards

leadership positions

an aspect that makes your “stand out”

College admission boards really want to see a diversified, well-rounded applicant. I’ve seen over-qualified people that were well-rounded get rejected and under-qualified people get accepted just because they were lucky enough to go the next step higher and win some national competition.

This past year, this girl I knew who excelled academically and was a dancer and was a good candidate got rejected by Columbia. This other kid that didn’t take many AP and took a free period senior year got accepted because his thing was film and he won a competition nationally and got to meet the president and all this stuff. It ticked me off even more because he wasn’t even serious about Columbia, he just did it “because.” Long story short, he’s going to NYU. Idiot.

Anyhow, based on what info you’ve provided so far, I’d say you have a good shot at UPenn. I can make a more certain decision with more info.

(Good choice, by the way. UPenn’s business program is phenomenal. I have a friend who was accepted ED this past year for UPenn’s Jerome Fisher program, which is a program that UPenn only accepts 50 people for.)

Rice, Pton, Gton, and Upenn are reaches, in everywhere else.
If your other stats are really good, then do SCEA to Princeton. Otherwise, ED to one of the four.

Thx for the replies and advice guys! More info about me includes: community service: 200+ hours (IB requires 150 already) EC’s: varsity football, swim team coach in summer, NHS prez, chess club prez, mu alpha theta member (math honor society), math and quiz league (competitions), class and junior world affairs council. Awards: Academic All-State for football, hopefully more awards to come senior year. Leadership: look at club prez’s and active member in class council, Varsity football captain this coming year, swim team assistant coach. Special Aspects: I think just being a really smart athlete who is even in chess club. A few of the kids I coach in swim team have down syndrome yet are some of the most inspirational people I know. I really want to get into Wharton at UPenn!

Community service is good; so are athletics. Not many awards, but your leadership positions are concentrated, so that’s good. Your EC’s are also concentrated, and you’re in the IB program. What would make you a stronger applicant is if you had EC’s that demonstrate your interest in business. Although UPenn is a reach for everyone, I’d say you’re qualified enough and do have a chance.

Thx tryandsucceed! You have offered great advice and I truly appreciate it (: I understand what you mean about more business-related EC’s and will look for more opportunities at my school and beyond. Again, you’ve been awesome and thx for the help!

there was a thread a while back about someone with a 2390 get wl’ed at uva. i don’t think that’s really a certain “in” for most people.

not commenting on your chances, just saying.

Wow that’s interesting, thx for the input
