The Race Question

I'm kind of stuck on what to do about the race question on the common app. My mom is East Asian and my dad is caucasian. My name is from my dad's side of the family so it sounds european, but I physically appear biracial (some people say I am clearly Asian, but other people say it's ambiguous). I consider myself to be white because I am largely cut off from my Asian heritage, and I don't fit the stereotype.

I don't want to put myself at a disadvantage if I don't have to, but I'm also worried that adcoms will feel like I am trying to game the system if I just put down white and they find out. I'm also worried that if I leave the question blank, it will raise a red flag and the adcoms will find some other way to investigate my race. What should I do?

you’re seriously overthinking this and are being paranoid. You can put both or either or none. Your choices are all viewed equally. Leaving it blank doesn’t start some “quest for playtpus’ actual race”.
