I disagree. 1. Wharton would become a lot more selective, and the college a lot less so. And yes, there's already division, but it's nothing like it would be if one group got into the more "prestigious" one, because as it is right now, most people in the college have no interest in wharton (besides maybe a few classes) and vice versa. If you could apply to both, then people like me who wouldn't want to ever go to Wharton might seem like we weren't good enough to get into wharton even if we never wanted to get into wharton to begin with. Besides, for the joint programs, it's special. But you have to be good enough PLUS be good enough for the program. And you have to choose on college anyways if you're not accepted to the joint, which could result in total rejection from penn.

Well it's probably pointless for us to argue about this, because whether or not one thinks that Penn should allow students to apply to both depends on the person. Those who just like either the College or Wharton are not gonna support letting students apply to both, and those who like the College and Wharton are gonna see it the other way. Benefits obviously depend on the student also.

ok i think it's time for another light comment. Someone post something...........!

Well, we've had plenty of pointless arguments on CC recently, so why not another? :)

Anyways, I'm just saying if she is truly passionate and would sacrifice anything to go to Penn, why couldn't she just go to "the plain old college". It scares me to think that there could actually be Wharton-wannabe college kids at penn and that this mentality exist more prevalent as ever today. Sure I'd like a second (and better) shot at the university, but I don't want the college kids to be the students that are going the "lesser" school. We don't want another Cornell... (haha jk)

How you doing?
(Oh very well!)

Ivy What?
(Champs!)

I am still really nervous that I am going to be seen as a Wharton wanna be, even though I'm NOT, just because I helped to start a business, did stock club etc. Even if I stress in the essay how important liberal arts is to me, they may still think I'm trying to backdoor it to Wharton. Help!
:(

don't let my opinion scare you. I'm leaning more towards pre-med than business anyways, which is why i decided to apply to the college. If Penn let me apply to Wharton and the College, I just would have had more time to think about my decision. I am, however, still somewhat interested in business, but I know this won't be a problem since I can just take a couple classes at Wharton if I'm accepted into the College.

collegecountdown- don't worry. The admissions officers can't just assume that just because you have some business-related EC's, you're automatically a Wharton wannabe. Those EC's will add more to your application than take away from it. Btw I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I'm pretty involved in my school's FBLA (future business leaders of america) and have won first place at state competitions, but that doesn't mean I like business best. That just means that I'm interested in more than one topic, which is basically what Penn looks for in an applicant.

rubberbands are my friends...:p

HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION OF THE DAY:
If today were my birthday, what would you get me? Be creative, especially since you guys haven't met me yet!

I have a soft spot for girls with Southern accents.

My favourite state is Georgia

I def wanna live in a big city, but I'm raising my kids in Savannah or Charleston..

I would get a globe. because everyone should have a globe :D

omg savannah is awesome i lived there for 4 years before!

I'm like the opposite! I'm not anti-south, but it's pretty much the last place in America and one of the last places in the "western" world I'd like to end up :p

but your not anti-south...

I don't hate the south or the people who live there lol! I, myself, just wouldn't want to ever live in the south. Just because I don't want to own a cat doesn't mean I hate them does it?

i know, i know. chillllll.....;)
