Thanks for the reminder Edward! The most important part of my app is that I am Mexican. :P

@Mathtransfer: No, I don't think they even consider it anymore. I think someone made a big stink about the whole situation a few years back, and thus they did away with it. Funny, no one complains about legacy's, or athletes being let into top schools...

California Proposition 209 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Proposition 209 was a 1996 California ballot proposition which amended the state constitution to prohibit public institutions from considering race, sex, or ethnicity. It had been supported and funded by the California Civil Rights Initiative Campaign, led by University of California Regent Ward Connerly, and opposed by affirmative action advocates and supporters. Proposition 209 was voted into law on 5 November 1996, with 54 percent of the vote. In the November 2006 election in Michigan, a similar amendment was passed, entitled the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative.

On 27 November 1996, U.S. District Court Judge Thelton Henderson blocked enforcement of the proposition. A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals subsequently overturned that ruling. Proposition 209 has been the subject of many lawsuits in state courts since its passage.

Since the passage of Proposition 209, higher graduation rates have been posted at University of California schools[citation needed] , which led opponents of affirmative action to suggest a causal link between Proposition 209 and a better-prepared student body. The African American graduation rate at the University of California, Berkeley increased by 6.5 percent[citation needed], and rose even more dramatically, from 26 percent to 52 percent, at the University of California, San Diego.[1]

While African American graduation rates at UC Berkeley increased by 6.5 percent[citation needed], the enrollment rates dropped significantly[1]. In fact, opponents of Proposition 209 note that there are greater disparities in elite education in the post-Proposition 209 era due to decreased African American and Latino enrollment. Proponents, on the other hand, note that Asian American enrollment rates dramatically increased at a majority of UC campuses.[citation needed]

^________^

That's what I thought.

Edward04, it sickens me that you think you know the motive behind people listing their ethnicity. Some people are very close to their culture so listing their background along with some of their stats just seems natural to them (here in US, we ask to a new person, "what do you do?" whereas in other countries they ask a new person "where are you from?"--it's just part of their culture to link background with what they do).
In a little more practical view, the first person (for whatever reason) included his ethnicity, and the rest just followed the same format. I don't know, maybe they listed their age because they thought it would gain them an unfair advantage!

Anyway, I shouldn't care why it sickened you, so carry on...

^ blah blah blah

They listed it because they think it will give them an unfair advantage. Nice try.

I listed it to get a rise out of you, ed.

You sicken me, anchor. Don't you know California Proposition x2-09 amends the state constitution to prohibit getting a rise out of ed...

You all sicken me.

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for English majors at BERKELEY?

whoa that korean dude on the first page went all out. makes me wonder why he didn't go to a uc or better out of high school

I focused too much on making money during H.S. and neglected my education.

Funny... I used to be a money glutton and now I'm a philosophy major. My, how things change.

I'm sorry to hear that duogmeg. Which school is your first choice? I don't know how schools admit with skill majors. Certainly a 4.0 may indicate that they may be a brain, but may not apply for a person's skill level.

awoo777 man, you are an example of automated acceptance.

duogmeg: sorry to hear that about UCLA and your music performance. I think it's really cool though that you're majoring in music - i really want to major in music too, but I don't think I have the guts to - so i admire that. do you guys mind telling me what you think about my stats:
