The RD Thread

Feel free to state how "Likelies" and ED's

.........................just don't get it!

The anxiety
The frustration
The meaninglessness of it all
The indifference of adcoms
The struggle to maintain your spirits
The smugness of people posting all their acceptances till you want to vomit
The second thoughs about having not applied ED (or to the wrong one)
The inabilit to convey the "it-ness" of being you

LET IT OUT!

just got waitlisted at washu and all hope is starting to crumble away. my thought process: "i didnt get into washu? crap, im not getting into any of the schools higher on my list either. here i come, grinnell, iowa or carleton."

how much it sucks? a lot. now i have to wait 2 more weeks thinking i dont have a chance at any of my top 5 schools. AAAAAHHHHHH...i cant even let them all know about awards and crap i won this year, or can i? yeah....its too late....AAHHHHHH!!!! i hate march...

Hey I got a likely letter and today I got waitlisted at WashU!!!!!

Its strange: So far, Dartmouth, Cornell, Notre Dame, and UCLA all want me but I get waitlisted by WashU? What a crazy game we play!!!!

Tufts Syndrome, and how.

King, you were waitlisted at Wash U....those @#%^$@$&@!

Hahaha like it matters- you got a likely from Dartmouth! Screw Wash U. You should fax them a copy of your likely and be like "what now, b*tches!"

lol I'm in an aggressive mood, I guess. :p

That would be so funny!

I would write on the letter before I faxed it off and I would say "I'm Rick James *!!!WashU ain't * anyway!!!"

Woo, Chappelle's Show is so funny

Hey guys,

Wash U. likes to manage its yield, just like Emory and Rice. They know they are playing a "comfortable safety" role, so they don't let in their less serious applicants and instead wait list them. Its a total win-win for them, it also makes them seem more selective.

My friend got waitlisted at Emory and got into Princeton, Penn, and Brown.

Don't sweat it.

....................................................

remember was u has moved up in the ranking because of some really great marketing (think about all of the mail you got from them) This has really pushed applications up. Last year the waitlisted a ton of people (seems like no one got rejected, just waitlisted). Slipper is right, enrollment management is a big thing, they want to try to admit people that hey know will enroll. Don't get too streesed over it because in the end you can only attend one school any way.

Wash U, Emory, and Rice all play the same game. They lure the top students with scholarships Ivies can't give (makes them look more selective), they waitlist an incredibly large portion of top applicants (yield management), and they market themselves. Its a three way strategy that has been working.

Who let all you oxygen-sucking non-RD folks on to this thread? lol

As you were rd people.

yes, I was once an RD person.

"Wash U, Emory, and Rice all play the same game."

but i like Rice. and plus, they must be doing SOMETHING right, last year someone from my school turned down harvard for them. in the past 2 years(not including this year), 3 people from my school have gotten into harvard, zero have attended. 1-KU, 1-WashU, and 1-Rice.

Yeah, probably for money though. Its a great school, but money often talks. They know how to play their vantage point as non-Ivies (hence being able to give out scholarships) very well. So basically they will admit the top tier of scholarship applicants, waitlist the kids right below that level, and let the serious first choice candidates in.

i'm scared to look at the WUSTL thread lol

wash u rejects people who dont call the school multiple times a day to declare their undying love. I wouldnt breath to much into a waitlisting there. So far im in at Macalester and UCLA, but im still praying for Dartmouth....11 days till April....

Anybody know the exact dates for Dimensions? Just wondering....

I was waitlisted at Wash U, too. I know EXACTLY where the frustration comes from. It's totally strange hearing how people with multiple C's got into Wash U, while I, having never gotten a C in my life, am waitlisted.

Deferred ED at Dartmouth. No likely letter, but they sent them out before I sent in my deferral letter and updated events, so who knows. I also kind of took it that people with better raw numbers got likelies, which might take the edge off (1500/800/780/730, good but still, eh). My deferral letter basically outlined all the crap I won/did in the three months since I sent in my application (which, surprisngly, was a lot). I got the Dartmouth Book Award from my school (nice deal, only four seniors out of like 500 get book awards) literally THREE DAYS after I sent in my application. I also told them I loved the school, my first choice, definitely going there if I get in, etc.

Sigh.

Hell yeah to KU, Kosuke!

They give KILLER scholarships for instate, lemme tell you.
