The REAL ACT Prep Guide

Hello there...

I took the first practice test in the PR book for the first time and got the following scores:

English: 29
Math : 24
Reading: 23
Science: 23

Composite: 24

I then read the review chapters in the Real ACT prep guide and then took a practice test and got the following:

English: 23
Math : 29
Reading: 32
Science: 35

Composite: 31

My question is, are the practice tests in the Real ACT prep guide easier than the ones in PR? Are they more representative of the the actual ACT test?

Also, whats a good score for the Ivy Leagues ( Brown, Upenn, etc ) ?

Thanks much.

On the ACT Prep Guide, I thought the practice tests in there were way easier than the actual test. But maybe I just had a harder test than normal.

As far as Ivys, Id recommend just doing your best, set your goals high, and your grades will carry yourself.

Damn.. was hoping that they were representative of the real test..Thanks for the info though...

Can anyone else confirm this?

considering the book consists of old tests, it is the best book out there

I'd say they are about equivalent, the Real ACT Guide and the real test.

I took two practice tests, and did better on the real ACT than on any of my practice tests. (in the ACT guide)

You made a big jump in the math and science area, but scored lower in English. Interesting...lol

I would have guessed they were about equivalent when I took the three practice tests from the Real ACT Prep book and then took the actual ACT test.

My scores were a bit off though. I scored 30-32 on the Real ACT Prep but only a 29 on the ACT test itself. It was one heck of a bad day though in all respects, so that might have been why.

Interesting. I scored 26-32 on my practice, an a 22 on the real one my first time. Hoping for a 30 on my second (took the 26th).

hmmm, now am really confused.. lol.... Oh well, I guess i'll just try me best and see how it goes....Can you guys recommend books other than PR and the REAL ACT Guide for practice tests? I;ve done all the practice tests in the abovementioned books...

Thanks

LearningExpressLibrary.com has a couple ACT practice tests. I wasn't expecting much out of them, but they actually seemed to be fairly close to the real act scores. Probably on the level of the PR's tests for accuracy i'd say. If your local library is a participant in their 'program', you can access those two tests for free with your library card.

No doubt about it though, the real act prep's practice tests will give you your most 'realistic' ACT score. After all, they were former ACT tests.

Gonna have to check if my library is part of this program. Checked my library's catalog and they seem to have a barrons ACT prep book published in 1995. Probably going to take a few practiec tests from there since Barron's is always harder than the real test.

I think the ACT gets a bit tougher as time goes on, so the tests in the Real ACT guide may be a tad easier. I could only tell a difference in the Math sections, though. I made a 30 and a 31 on the practice Math sections I took from the prep guide, but only a 28 on the real one. The other sections were all within one point on the practice and real tests for me.

I got a 31/35/34/35 in my first REAL ACT practice test, did about four hours of prep, scored a 32/35/34/35 on the actual thing.

Cool.. Thanks much for the input guys..
