Tons of people say tons of different things about how to transfer into Newhouse. I am here to tell you the real deal.
I am a freshman at Syracuse Univ. I applied early decision for Newhouse, got Arts & Sciences instead. I'm trying to get in for Fall 2015 for advertising. I've asked different people how to get in everyone says something different.
Rumor #1: You only need a (insert number) GPA to get in and you’ll be fine!
Part of this is true. The GPA differs each semester. Between the years of Fall 2011-Fall 2014 the minimum GPA has ranged from a 3.3 to a 3.7. So don’t listen to people who give you an exact GPA that’s required. IT DIFFERS EACH YEAR. I’d recommend though trying to get as high as a GPA as you can though.
Another thing is that they rank order you by GPA and go down the list until all spots are filled. So like before get your GPA as high as possible.
Rumor #2: A certain college is easier to transfer from than others
This is a lie. I had heard online that VPA was the easiest to transfer from. That isn’t necessarily true. It ALL depends on what CLASSES you are taking and the grades you receive in them. Granted VPA probably has less intense classes than those in Arts & Sciences who knows (I don’t since I haven’t taken any VPA classes yet). But note that it DOESNT MATTER which school you are transferring from.
Pretty much its all about the number of your GPA. Extra curricular things do not matter it’s all about your GRADES. So choose wisely your classes freshman year to ensure you can boost your grade. Some classes I’d recommend:
ETS107
WRT114
SOC101
ANT121
CSF388
You must transfer before the beginning of your junior year. You can try to transfer (as long as you have at least 30 credits under your belt) for the fall and spring of your sophomore year and the fall of your junior year. So technically you have 3 shots. Supposedly, I have heard that the spring semester is easier to transfer than the fall, I do not know if that is true or not.
It was a very hard decision for me because I was accepted into Emerson College into the program that I wanted, but Syracuse gave me more money so in the end I chose SU. I shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 when I transfer. I’m hoping this’ll get me in. Who knows. If you have any qs feel free to ask me.
