The REAL IMPORTANT scheduling question:

Ok I’ve been beating around the bush with previous question so I’m thinking its probably more productive to just get opinions on both of my perspective junior schedules instead of asking multiple specific questions:

Option 1:
IB History hl (already taken APUSH in case that effects opinions)
AP English Language and Comp
AP Biology
IB math SL 2
AP Economics
AP Physcology
IB ITGS HL

Option 2:
AP Chem
AP Biology
AP Language and Comp
AP Economics
AP Physcology
IB MAth sl 2

with Option 1:
I’d likely get valedictorian
I’d have a nice mix of both IB and AP classes
It would likley be easier

With option 2:
I would have arguably a much harder and more impress course load courseload

Probably gonnabe an econ major

Is that really the choice? Because they seem identical except option 1 has 7 classes, with IB History and IB ITGS and option 2 has no history or ITGS but instead has AP Chem. Are you asking whether AP Chem alone is that much tougher than 2 IB HL classes?

What are your plans for IB testing? Are you sticking with both years of the HL courses and testing in May of senior year? Unless you are planning on STEM major and career, I’m not sure why AP Chem would be necessary on top of AP Bio. I would think that a prospective econ major would benefit from the IB History HL and even ITGS.

Many considerations are specific to your school – at my kid’s school, History HL is a tough tough class, I cannot imagine any of his friends consider it “easier” than an AP science class, just different. They read a lot, all the time, have a lot of writing to do. Also, while APUSH would likely overlap some with History HL, it is History of the Americas, not United States, and there is a lot about South and Central American history in the IB class as well.

Both choices are likely to be perceived as “rigorous” so consider what subjects you are interested in, and what helps with a path to your possible college interests.

Which IB history HL? One of them may substantially overlap the content of AP US history, but others may not.

It looks like the difference between the two is just AP chemistry versus IB history and IB ITGS.

The fact that you spelled “psychology” wrong twice worries me already (one I would have thought to be a typo)…

You have five courses that are in both options. These are AP Bio, AP Economics, AP Pysch, AP Lang/Comp, and IB Math SL 2. So basically without these courses, you are stuck between:

Option 1:
IB History
IB ITGS

Option 2:
AP Chem

If you are going into an economics major, I would actually not recommend any of what you have said and I instead offer you to do the five courses listed above (that are in both options). If you are just doing Psych to fulfill your social sciences requirement, then do it; otherwise I would even tell you not to do it.

Instead, I would offer you a new schedule (unless your schedule forces you to do one or another, then PM me):

  1. English requirement - AP Lang
  2. Math requirement - IB Math SL 2
  3. Science requirement (if needed) - If you are good at memorizing stuff, AP Bio. But you have to be really good at memorizing stuff, because the course is all memorization. Otherwise, if you like a mix of memorizing and applications, choose AP Chem.
  4. Social Studies requirement (if needed) - AP Economics (because you are going into economics and this would look good on college apps). I would say that if and only if Econ doesn’t fulfill your social studies requirement that you take AP Psych; otherwise your schedule would be harder with the extra workload (and given what you have said, I assume you don’t want that heavy of a workload). If you want to take IB History, then go for it as well. So A) Econ B) Psych C) History
  5. Elective - IB ITGS. I would learn information technology ESPECIALLY if you are going into a business/economics related field because the field of technology and computers is significantly growing in today’s world. Having the knowledge to apply technology to your field of economics is vital.

What are you going to college for? If it’s a STEM field, do AP Chem (option 2). If not, do option 1.

I would definitely do option 1. I don’t know why you think option 2 is more impressive- it has less courses.

@guineagirl96‌

AP Chem is a 2-credit class…

If the OP want to go into STEM, he should definitely take it.

@hungryteenager

How do we know this?

@skieurope‌

It was for me. Same with AP Bio. A lot of schools have AP courses with lab components be 2-credit courses. 1 for instruction, 1 for lab. My school district does this, and I believe that a lot of others do as well.

@hungryteenager‌ That was your school. Different schools, different policies. It’s a 1 credit course at my school.

@skieurope‌

OK. My bad.

@guy1234‌

At your school, is AP Chem a 2 credit or 1 credit course?

lol at my school its 6 credits. Every school is different

its 1.5 credits at my school and a 2-period block class, so yes it would be valued more

Yeah, then take Chem, I’d say. It’ll be noted on your transcript that it’s a multiple period class, so colleges shouldn’t view it as less than 2 single period classes.

As far as college admissions go, though, schedule 1 would be better. Doubling up on science is only recommended for students who hope to major in STEM fields. However, I don’t see an IB Sl, HL, or AP foreign language: have you already achieved it? What score did you get? If you didn’t, drop AP Psych and take FL instead.

i finished french 4, if I try to go any higher its not gonna be pretty. Without going into the details, Foreign Languages aren’t my forte and ill likely get a 2 on the ap test

Okay, if you have French 4, you’re fine. :slight_smile: So, schedule 1 :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

@guy1234‌

What are you studying in college? Because if you’re doing a STEM field, AP Chem will look much more impressive than schedule 1.

I’ll likely study economics

thanks everyone, there are some pretty great responses
