Good to hear, melsmom…please don’t be a stranger on the Elon board after May; alot of us have kids coming up from HS that have Elon on the radar screen…

You bet, I can’t say enough about how much she loved it and how perfect the school was for her. She didn’t miss me a minute, well maybe when she got sick, but that’s it.

Also good to know. I am praying that my d feels the same in 4 years. I am a very nervous parent of an incoming freshman who is traveling very far ( air travel only). So I look forward to her Elon experience (holding my breath).

Thanks Melsmom for the encouraging words.
It is good for us nervous moms thinking about our kids being so far away to hear those words.

Greek life is available, not pervasive. There are a few formal frat/sorority houses, and a few “informal” houses, but none would be thought of as “huge”. I think the poster who referred to them that way is confused. Male/female ratio is, and has been for some time, about 40/60. The data is available. Never 5:1 Look at other liberal arts schools, its about the same.

Thanks again, all, for posting such helpful information! It’s been decided… going to be Elon for my DD also! We are in Chicago area, so air travel will also be in the cards for her.

I heard from an acquaintance in Atlanta that her D had a wonderful experience at Elon, although she was in the Greek system. This girl never missed having a large metro area available and was busy all the time on campus! Good to hear, right, parents?

I hope all continue to share the wisdom this summer! Enjoy your graduations!!

Rookie: although you are new to CC, please don’t be a stranger next year; a number of juniors on CC with Elon on their lists…Congrats w the decision!!!

My D is at Elon, and did join a sorority. Drinking is there if you want it, my D’s pledge class voted to be “dry” during their pledge period to put the focus on getting to know each other. Very mature! The Greek like is important, but not vital. Non Greeks seem to be invited to all parties, frat parties anyway. I think it is MUCH tamer than my State School experience in the late 70s. We are VERY impressed with Elon.

She chose Elon, but my DD’s other main choices were Loyola Marymount in LA, TCY, Miami of Ohio and U of Kansas.

Burlington has everything one might need (except charm maybe!), but Greensboro is 20+ minutes away and has everything too. It is also nice at Elon to have TWO airports to choose from. Raleigh Durham (RDU) is larger, and has Southwest (which we adore)–90 minutes, more flight choices. Greensboro is a small airport, fewer flight choices, closer. Walk right out the door of the airport to the rental cars…nice!

This year at Elon my daughter & friends attended a concert at Wake Forest and one at Duke. Nice other schools, close by.

I still don’t buy what Vinga was selling. From what I can see, the lowest Elon’s male/female ratio ever got was 63% female, 37% male - that’s not quite 2:1, nowhere near 5:1. Maybe he wasn’t looking for guys, so that’s why he didn’t see them? lol

For the class of 2014, males are 42%. It’s getting closer to even. Also, the frat/sorority houses do only house a max of 11 or 12 members.

Glad to hear everyone elses’ wonderful Elon experiences. D will be starting there next week, we are also coming from a long way away (750 miles) and she is SO excited! I’m going to miss her, but I don’t think she’s going to miss us…

She’s going to miss you! But hopefully she’s going to be having such a great time and making so many new friends that the time is going to fly by until fall break!
