I thought 1984 was better than Brave New World, but it was also more tragic.

powerbomb, you’ll really enjoy freaknomics, its written easily, so anyone could understand.

I just finished Freakonomics. I just ordered, Memiors by David Rockefeller, and Cheney: The untold story of the most controversial Vice President, im pumped!

And another thing, you CCers that are busy with SAT,EC’S,SCHOOL,SOCIAL LIFE,etc. how do you guys have time to read books to relax? It seems hard for me, because im constantly busy…

^ personally, there’s time for it…i usually read in homeroom, waiting for a ride, etc

I usually read on the way to and from school (I’ve got 3 hours of commuting every day, so I have time).

I don’t know how much time I’ll have to read this year, though, since I’m supposed to be a good junior and study for the SAT and whatnot…

But the next books on my list are:

We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For, Alice Walker (for when I need to be inspired/meditate, I guess).
Candide, Voltaire (because a friend recommended it when I told him I was taking a Philosophy class).
Cryptonomicon, Neal Stephenson (recommended by the same friend for very different reasons).

I LOVED Candide

Ah, I <3 Voltaire. He was so witty! Like the Douglas Adams of the 18th century… :]

I’m reading Catch-22 and need to begin Beowulf sometime soon. I also have Notes from the Underground waiting for me, and I’ve been dying to read it lol, but I wanna finish my current list first.

You guys read a lot. ;)

A Random Walk down Wall Street by Makiel

Good stuff

I’m not reading anything currently, because, well, I’ve read everything I want to read.
I read the types of books I like faster than people can put them out (seriously, one school year I read over 75 books), and I’m kind of picky.

Last book I finished was The Oath by Frank Peretti. I might reread some stuff soon. Maybe Sabriel, or the Pendragon series. Dunno.

The one I’m reading right now is Slaughterhouse-Five.

I think I’m becoming a Kurt Vonnegut fan. I’m excited to read his other books because I really really like Slaughterhouse-Five. Any suggestions for any of his other books?

I’m also reading “Mind,” which is basically a philosophy book about consciousness. It focuses on Descartes, mostly. But it’s definitely cool. :)

And, even though it’s for school, I consider reading ‘All The King’s Men’ by Robert Penn Warren worthy of deeming Recreational Reading because it’s AMAZING. Absolutely, mind-blowingly phenomenal book!!! : O!!!

I liked Welcome to the Monkey House and the Bagombo Snuff-box.

Jane Eyre, currently. When I finish, I want to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Moby Dick, Brave New World, The Winter of Our Discontent, Ulysses, The City and the Pillar, The Crying of Lot 49, Bright Lights Big City, To Kill a Mockingbird…

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is AMAZING. My favorite book of all time.

So you, al3csp34rs (did you just randomly hit the keyboard and decide to make that your name? it seems so utterly random), win at life.

Ya Slaughter-House Five also got me started on Vonnegut. He is brilliantly funny. I then read Cat’s Cradle which is aaaamazing. It has sort of the same stile as SH5 but is distinct in its on ways. I want to read Breakfast of Champions now.

…and so it goes.
