The Rejection with Perfection

^
wow, that changes everything. You just went from a match to a reach.

got waitlisted

33 ACT (36/36 science)
3.7 W GPa / 4.0
was a lacrosse recruit

^ yeah i was gonna say that’s wack as hell too. it makes no sense at all why you didn’t get in. I’m bet you’ll get off that waitlist though if you opted for it

Yea man i just accepted it for the f*** of it haha why not, right? I’m pretty much set on UC Santa Barbara though so even if I get off it I still may not accept.

^If you’re so bitter that you got wait listed, why didn’t you just reject it to give others a better chance of getting in?!

Doesn’t accepting a waitlist means you will attend for sure?

If ckl22’s GPA was unweighted the reason probably would have been different (that or he would of just been accepted, which I believe would be likely then), but I have to ask what it is unweighted. If unweighted is a notable bit lower then that difference between test scores and GPA probably resulted in the decision.

yosup: Not bitter man, Michigan is an AWESOME school for sure. All I said is im pretty much set on UCSB. Maybe I should take back what i said and say I would give UM a chance if they accepted me (which looking back now i think i would). Im just not 100% sure i’d accept.

rhythmgamimg: 3.6 UW thereabouts.

Yeah, I was waitlisted too…and the sad thing is that my sister goes to UM so this is really just embarrassing. My stats aren’t too good (3.5 UW 4.1W, 29act) but I thought I’d have a decent chance, but guess I was wrong.
How many of you guys are actually going to accept the waitlist offer?

keep in mind that they also want strong course rigor relative to the other students in your school, not simply the number of the GPA. a 3.9 with mediocre classes isn’t going to cut it compared to 3.7 with a lot of AP/honors.

quepasta123-

are you in-state?

Yes I am in-state, which makes my situation even more pathetic. What really frustrates me though is that I know of several people with much lower stats than mine (and barely any extra curriculars) that got in somehow…but they all coincidentally applied as soon as the applications were available. Oh well, I guess a lot of us learned to not procrastinate from this whole experience.
But anyways going back to my original question, are the majority of you that are waitlisted going to accept the offer?

I applied to U-M many years ago, and it’s essential to apply before December. That will increase your odds of admittance.

To have a good chance of getting in, a 3.9+ unweighed GPA WITH a 32+ on the ACT and/or a 2200+ on the SAT is required. Even then, Michigan is NEVER a safety.

Michigan is a reach for any applicant with a sub 3.8 unweighed GPA WITH a sub 28 on the ACT and/or a sub 1950 on the SAT.

I am sure there are many applicants who fall below those stats that get accepted, but for every one that is accepted, 9 will be rejected.

For some reason, people really underestimate Michigan’s selectivity. It is one of the most selective universities in the nation.

I feel so honored to have Alexandre post on my thread. Thank you.
