The Rejects Corner

This is a test, because it keeps saying I'm not logged in, when I am

"i think applying for annenberg plus only having one rec is the kiss of doom...cause thats 3 of us rejected with good/great stats that did that"

Our dd also rejected, interviewed with Annenberg, is focused like a laser on a broadcast journalism major. She had two recs--very positve, personal, enthusiastic ones. USC liked the fact that she's interning at a local Time-Warner cable tv station, and the program manager provided an excellent rec letter ('Best high school intern we've ever had', etc, etc). She has 4.0 uw, weak SAT's though for USC, strong on-topic essay, presents well, is well suited for this major. She's bummed, but we realized it was a stretch with her SATs. She'll pursue the rigorous freshman year classes and try as a transfer student. She really, really, wants this degree from USC.

wow, reading all these stats makes me feel a bit bad for getting in.

I got in for Spring '08 with a 3.82 uw and 1680 SAT :/

I think a lot of us really underestimated how competitive Annenberg is- I know I did. I didn't know it was so competitive till seeing some of these rejections... Melmel- You def. deserve to get in. Good luck with your appeal letter!

i'm a reject too!!!

ForeverA--well, I'm curious. What strong points do you think worked to your favor with USC? Did you declare a major? Tell us more...

I was accepted but with (definitely) less than perfect scores.

I'm extremely surprised that I got in, considering the other students that described their stats. However, I think that USC chose me since I'm extremely dedicated in everything involved with digital entertainment and that my recommendations were from teachers who knew me extremely well. Oh, and I took the SAT 3 times...lol.

Not to sound offensive or anything, Alentia, because I am happy for anybody who gets in, but that is b-s-h-i-t that I didn't get in now. Granted my SAT was only a 2050, still. Jeez, I'd like to know exactly why they rejected me. My extracurriculars were all excellent in spite of the fact that I've lived in multiple countries and conveyed this very strongly in my application essay and I'm a URM. Darrrrrrn-why the hell did they reject me now? What do you think your biggest hook was, Alentia?

Sometimes I think that maybe I should have scored lower on my SATs. I hear that the institution hates to see high test scores with a mediocre GPA and not many advanced classes. I only took one, but that's because I spent my freshman and sophomore years abroad and couldn't really take any until my senior year, but then it was too late because I had to take my classes to graduate. It's so f-ed up, but whatever, I'll transfer to USC after a year. I wouldn't if I were majoring in any program, but they have the best screenwriting program in the world, and that's what I want to do.

Well, thinking back on that comment now, my SATs weren't incredibly high, but I did manage to score a 760 Writing, 720 Critical Reading, although my math was only a 570. I hate math, what can I say? Guys, I'm just sort of venting here for all those wondering.

I just don't understand why they reject some kids like stressed0ut with good everything except SAT, which were still higher than a lot of people (refer to some above post) and accept other kids with Stats a lot lower. I mean, what did you guys do differently? I did everything I knew how to plan for it, I even drove 6 hours out of the way to do a 40 minute interview and 6 hours back. And I thought it went extremely well, but, what I am doing? I am playing the what if game while everybody is asleep and dreaming about where they will be going next year. I need to let it go.... that's what I keep telling myself- let it go.

My hook...well, I don't think I really had a hook. My grades and SAT scores were less than satisfactory and I technically could have put more effort into my extra-curriculars. However, I made my whole application so personal that I think that's what got me in -- I tried my hardest to make the application a true reflection of me. And like I said earlier, I gave them my Myspace. I told them my honest-to-God feelings on video games. But also, which I should have mentioned earlier, I had an extremely rough patch my entire junior year (best not get into details, but it was bad) that I specifically mentioned in detail within my application. I'm guessing they considered every factor of my application and weighed it out.

But anyway, I know what you mean. I looked at all the earlier posts and went "omfg". There are so many people with amazing grades and stats that I'm :O

Sounds like we had a similar junior year- well, I don't know the details, so I can't really say similiar, but I had a hard transition moving back from overseas and got into some trouble and ended failing a class- kinda ironic that it was English, considering the fact that it's my best subject (please refer to SAT scores for proof of that). But, I did explain all of this in my application, but whatever. It doesn't matter now, I guess. I'm just venting for no reason.

^ i totally understand where you are coming from...
but now i'm an official anteater! (ummm what kind of sounds do they make?)

sorry you guys had to make this thread. But thats how life is, best thing to do is move on. yeah?
