For parents of current Temple students, or anyone with plans to visit the campus, i thought it would be nice to hear about various restaurants that people try. Here's a few for starters:

Criniti - Authentic South Philly Italian, on Broad street in s. philly. We enjoyed our meal here very much, but thought it was a bit pricey. We walked right in at 7:30 on a Saturday & had no problem being seated. Good house chianti. Lots of parking available on Broad St.

Ting Wong in Chinatown- we had high hopes for this, as it was the Best of Philly winner in Chinatown for 2013 and 2014. However, we found it just OK. We like the spicier stuff & this was not. Extraordinarily cheap though - a huge dinner for 3 of us came to $19.50.

Kabuki Sushi - 13th & Arch. Very good! Also very reasonable. BYOB. We had some good sushi rolls & shumai dumplings.

Reading Terminal Market - standouts so far are the Italian hoagie at Salumeria, hot pastrami sandwich & knishes at Herschel's Eastside & warm fresh donuts at Beilers. There's a ton more to try there.

My dh swears by Dinic’s at Reading Terminal Market. Just be warned it closes early. I think on Saturday the last time we were, the stores started closing around 6pm… he was so disappointed as they didn’t have any pork left! :(

JONES , 700 Chestnut St. American “comfort” cuisine. Funky decor. A bit pricey for what you get but it’s in a touristy area.
RED OWL TAVERN, corner of 4th & Chestnut adjacent to Monaco Hotel. Also in tourist area so not cheap but good food.
FRANKLIN FOUNTAIN, 113 Market St. Great ice cream. cash only.

Sakura Mandarin - in Chinatown. We liked this place much better than Ting Wong. Good spicy dishes, nice atmosphere.

Darling’s Diner - Northern Liberties, not too far from Temple. we went here based on a previous poster’s recommendation. It was a fun place! Solid diner menu, really good looking desserts. We went on a rainy day, but on nice days it has a great outside area.

These restaurants all have gluten-free food:

AGNO - 2104 Chestnut St (Rittenhouse Sq.) - Mediterranean, organic - have eaten here many times - delicious food, very healthy, average price.

PURE FARE - 119 S. 21st St.(Rittenhouse Sq.) - Organic - breakfast & lunch foods, smoothies, desserts - very healthy! A little expensive for breakfast/lunch foods. Same owners as AGNO.

SQUARE 1682 - 121 S. 17th St. (Rittenhouse Sq.) -Part of Hotel Palomar - Modern, farm-to-table, organic = $$$. Delicious food.

BRIDGET FOY’S - 200 South St. (Old City/Queens Village) - fun pub atmosphere, fun area for walking around, good food, average price.

BUDDAKHAN - 325 Chestnut St. (Old City) - Modern Asian - delicious food, expensive.

LOLITA’S - 106 S. 13th St (Center City) - Modern Mexican, delicious food, average price. On the night we ate here, there was a small street party, with d.j. and people dancing - we ate outside - very fun.

Temple has great food trucks that sometimes you can get some authentic food! However, the most popular places among Temple students are usually in the Rittenhouse Square district of Philadelphia. I would highly recommended the following.

Federal Donuts (Multiple Locations)
Fried Donuts & Fried Chicken
Top Ranked in numerous magazines
1632 Sansom Street
Philadelphia

Capogiro (Multiple Locations)
National Geographic #2 Ice Cream/Gelato
Intersection of 20th & Sansom Street

We are big fans of Marathon Grill, Jones, Lee How Fook and Jade Garden in Chinatown, Fork for high-end dining, Amada for great tapas, El Vez for fun mexican. Sort of near Temple is Osteria, excellent higher-end Italian food. Check reviews at www.phillymag.com
