The right one for me

I am a student with grades between average and above average ( I am international student , so you people wouldn't understand )

SAT 1 - 2030
Maths - 700
CR - 700
CW - 630

I plan to do an Undergrad degree in Mechanical

My requirements :-

1)I want to go to a good city , with a lot of opportunities , good-top companies , good internships , good parties , not so expensive .
2)Less selective
3)Very good scholarships to international (One of my friends in drexel is a student who has grades very much similar to mine . He recieved scholarship for his SAT , which is 1850 and lower than mine)
4)Prestigious (OK , I know the Ivies is a huge/impossible kind of reach for me , But i want a degree which is respected and would help me get jobs in companies such as Microsoft ... )

I definitely love philly , and I definitely have Drexel on my list . I need more uni's that can match my requirements .

Thank you and please help me out

Boston U
Carnegie Mellon (merit aid unlikely)
Case Western
GWU
Lehigh
Northeastern
NYU Poly
St. Louis University
Temple
U Cincinnati
USC (merit aid unlikely)
WPI

I don’t know whether i am right or wrong , but a friend of mine told me UPenn (which is 2nd on my wish list of uni’s) accepts more credits from drexel. Especially for the mech. engineering .

I plan to transfer after my first two years of my university , may be to an IVY or some other good university . So can you people help me out with this ?

My dream university is Stanford . I like everything about it . I want to know how to get in ? . I know this is a very vague question . But i feel very helpless now . I am confused

By the way a few people told me reasons not to go to boston - 1) EXPENSIVE , 2) I will always be put after students from universities such as MIT or Harvard .

I am really confused . I have no idea , what to do . The thing is , there is just so much a US news ranking or the google can tell U and my school does not have any counselor . I have a problem choosing the right university for me .

Updated -
Prestigious , good scholarships for internationals , very good internships , a good uni overall so that i don’t screw up if I don’t get in to Stanford, Not so expensive ( my parents can definitely afford Harvard or any other expensive University, But i want to keep the costs down for the first 2 years, less selective ,should give me some kind of edge to get in to Stanford

Drexel is a match for me , so please do not suggest some university that is way above me

I am a student who can study and get an A+ but i have been facing a lot of problem lately and i guess it is just bad luck , hopefully when i am away from this **** hole (sorry for the language) , i can concentrate on my academics and do something for myself

Thanks for helping me out .

What do you mean by majoring in “mechanical”? Do you mean engineering?

i am sorry . It is mechanical engineering

Bump … any1 …
please help me out

You are letting yourself in for probable disappointment hoping to transfer to Stanford. First, they take about 2% of transfer applicants. Second, they are not need blind to internationals. Third, you would need a huge boost in SAT scores to compete as a transfer.

Choose a college you will really love from the start. Figure out what you want to spend. As an international, you’ll find that most decent schools will cost the same as the top schools.

You might look at some of the mid tier UCs, Santa Clara, RIT, Purdue, Mchigan.

thanks a lot for the advice … but i guess Stanford is a bit of a long shot for me . All i can do is curse myself :frowning: . Anyways Here is my list :-

1)Drexel
2)WPI
3)UIUC
4)UMichigan - Ann arbor
5)Virginia Tech
6)Penn State - UP

I Need someone to help me out with my list .

My Requirements :-
Strong engineering degree - This is the most important

The thing is - I don’t want to waste the money which my parents have earned .

Please Don’t worry about the finances :-
Family Income - 150K Per year ($)

I want the best value education . I don’t want to end up paying 40K and receive education from a tier 3 or 2 university . I want to go to the U.S. so that i can get some quality education and get a very good job .

If you’re willing to look into Penn State and Virginia Tech, why not consider Georgia Tech?

It has a much stronger Mech E program than most of the colleges on your list, and Atlanta is a much more exciting city than State College or Blacksburg.

ok … i will look into it

I plan to apply to a maximum of 6 universities

If u were me where would you apply ?

Where are you from and which schools are most respected in your country? You can not plan on staying to work in the US, there are very few visas and they are getting very hard to get.

i am an Indian , living in India.

Honestly, if you don’t want to pay $40K plus for 4 years you’re better off doing undergrad in India. Chances of staying in the States is small.

the main reason i am looking at the US is because i want to get out of India . Trust me , it is not a place for .

I have visited an Education USA office , the people over there did not even show a little bit of concern . I got an appointment two months after i had booked.

I am also looking at UK and Australia .

But the US is my top priority .

BUMP and thaanks

Bump … Any1 ?

Bump …

come on people … atleast try and help me out … I require more help than people with 4.0 GPA and have an amzing profile and want to be chanced for harvard

Please

BUMP

:@ … come on people … please

Do some more research. Spending the money to come to college in the US because you want to stay leads to disappointment for most. H1B visas have been reduced and will probably be further reduced. As an employer, we have stopped even trying to sponsor internationals because it’s become to difficult and costly.

Some engineers do get the visas. If they are lucky enough to it is to work for one company which will control the visa. ouu can not switch jobs and many employers use this to under pay.

Here’s an article to read on this subject:

there are tons of Indian students at Purdue. I was in the Purdue 2013 facebook group for a few days and noticed that there were tons of people coming to Purdue from India
