So for the last open-ended essay I'm thinking about submitting a satire I wrote

A REAL satire, in the same style and tone as Jonathan Swift's original

I mean I feel that this is the best creative piece I've ever written... it's witty, thoughtful, very focused, and ridicules racism to effect social change on a very prominent issue in society today (illegal immigration)

BUT...

For those of you who have read the Modest Proposal, think of how inflammatory and offensive it was

Well mine equals it in offensiveness, and its ridicule of racism is VERY subtle (enough that a fast read of it will sound like I'm a hardcore racist)

No doubt, though, I'm a sure it's an excellent example of pure satire (where humor is not the primary intent) and have been told so by my English teacher

What do you guys think? I heard chicago is very openminded with its essays, but should I take this chance?

yeah so i have a rough draft saved on this computer, ill send it to you beefs

please keep in mind that it's a direct parody of the real modest proposal, that i had to use the same literary techniques, appeals to emotion, etc. as swift so dont think im being overzealous in insulting mexicans for fun

I do plan on including a disclaimer, with the definition of what satire is and a brief history of how swift was ostracized and condemnned for his version when he first wrote it too on eating babies to feed the poor

It's too big to pm, please provide an email

arapollo: yes of course i'd have a disclaimer. but even when i warned my parents, they were too outraged at the content to even see through the subtleness

im afraid that this will happen too with chicago, especially if they have a hispanic reader

if you're afraid that they might not see it as a satire, then you could go ahead and write at the top of your essay something along the lines of " Topic: Write a satire" or something liek that

Wow, your essay sounds intriguing.
If you feel comfortable, I'd be very interested to see what you wrote. Just so you know though, I have yet to send in my RD application myself, so I would understand if you don't want to let me see it.

I'd also be happy to trade essays with you, if you don't mind giving me some feedback on my essay. I just wrote whatever was on my mind and now I'm really scared that the essay doesn't make sense.

Well, yeah, give me a pm if you're interested.

Is not the whole point of a chicago essay to be yourself? I think you should just write an orginal essay for chicago and then use this as a supplement. it may be a daring essay and everything, but if i was a chicago admissions offer I would like to see more of you through your essay and not something that seemed like an assignment. but it's your application and its due tomorrow so...
