How do you have a "rumored" list?

Well, i'm quite disappointed to see Brown fallen to #15
Still applying RD.

They were leaked on the other discussion site, aut0admit.com (replace the 0 with an o)

Yeah, it is ridiculous how high Penn is ranked and how low Brown is ranked. Its as if the editors made up a formula to rank Penn highly.

wow....ucb must be a great school. the have to beat many schools academically to be in top 20.

Of course we could start this rumored list off:

Princeton

Harvard

Yale....

Sorry, couldn't resist:). And it's just a rumor anyway, right?

Interesting to note that UT Austin, which was 46 last year, has fallen out of the top 50.

Several major flagships fell in addition to Texas: Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and UVA. Generally related, I expect, to budgetary problems. California state schools, on the vother hand, seem to be making something of a comeback. The varior court and legislative actions impacting affirmative action programs may have had an impact.

Byerly, do you have any of the other statistics that come with the list other than just the rank number?

HYP ranges for SAT

Aren't minor changes in rank just as likely to come from US News's tinkering with its formula as from actual changes in university quality?

There is really far less "tinkering" than some critics like to pretend. Indeed, since the CDS forms started to become widely adopted (encouraged by USNews) the focus has been on getting standardized data - ie, making sure all the comparisons are apples to apples. The famous Caltech fiasco was an anomoly, several years ago. Other than that misguided (though sincere) effort to recaculate the value of research funds, the only change in the last 5 yrs has been the elimination of "yield" as a selectivity measure. Its "value" was only about 1.5% of the total, and its absence hasn't seemed to change things too much. (Personally, I think it should have been replaced with RD yield.)

How is stanford not in the top 3!?

Stanford is never in the top 3... but it my opinion, it is a better school than Duke, and Duke is a better school than UPenn.

oh no alumother, now get ready for Byerly.

These rankings are always Ivy League dominated, and thus Stanford has a hard time penetrating the perpetual Ivy top.

Aren't their academic ( not athletic ) programs underfunded as well?

Great school though. In my opinion, better than Duke, and slightly better than Penn. Should be at 4, but not any higher. Its alright, because they make up for it in the grad school rankings!

WashU better than UC Berkeley, Chicago and Cornell. Are they nuts???

What are the ranking criteria, and the weight of each criterion, again?

The criteria and weighting are all explained in the Guide itself and on the website.
