FYI: When my daughter attended Walnut Hill (a performing arts high school near Boston), UNH was often recommended as an excellent ‘safety’ school for Theater majors who wanted to be close to Boston.

As we narrow down the list, it looks like we need more safeties. Anyone know about Iowa’s theater program? There application seems very low stress.

Any non audition schools with good acting programs in the midwest or northwest? I’ve heard mixed reviews of U Washington, but don’t know how up to date that is. Any advice is most appreciated.

Here is an article (from an Oregon source!) stating that the UW was not accepting new graduate students for the 2010-11 school year because of budget cuts. The drama department website states that the school is accepting graduate students for some programs for the 2011-12 school year. The undergraduate program does not appear to be a performance based program.

LeMoyne College is located in Syracuse, which natives prefer to think of as “Central New York.” It is a small Jesuit school that made waves nationally last fall when their basketball squad beat crosstown “rival” Syracuse University in a pre-season exhibition game. Looking at the LeMoyne website it appears their theater facilities have improved substantially since I was a grad student at SU way back when.
