The same title as this broad category has (What are my chances???) :-D

Well let me start out by saying this is my first thread. Okay so I want to get into either Boston University or NC State and from the looks of my freshman and sophmore years I don't think that I have a chance. Freshman year I took all honor core classes like english, geometry, except advanced biology then spanish 1, team sports, concert band, world history honors, and regular gym. I got an A in world history honors, band, team sports, gym and a B for honors english, honors geometry, and advanced biology and a C for Spanish 1 for the year (stupidest mistake ever I forget the essay part on my exam and by the way these are grades for the year). My sophmore year I took medical sciences, business law, honors algebra 2, honors english, honors civics and economics, spanish 2, and advanced chemistry. I got an A in business law and the rest B's except a C in honors algebra 2. I am currently in my junior year I am taking 3 Ap's (AP physics, psychology, and english) jazz band, study hall, honors US History ( they didnt give me AP) and Pre-cal honors. I havn't got to pre-cal honors since this is the first year my school is doing a 4x4 schedule but currently I have B's in all of my Ap's (I was one point from getting an A in AP physics and didn't know what to excpect in my othe Ap's since this is first quarter) and A's in jazz band, study hall, and US history. I am possibly going to make straight A's this qurter give or take AP english. What are my chances of getting into Boston U or NC State if anyone could tell me please. (I am really sorry for not having all my grades and classes in a chart for better organization or for any grammatical or spelling errors).

Here's the situation.

Essentially you have the following:
Freshman year--3.0 UW GPA excluding gym, band, team sports (all non-academics)
Sophomore year--3.0 UW GPA, but lots of tough courses
Junior year--about 3.6 to 3.8 UW GPA after one semester with 3 AP courses.

So this means you have about a 3.2 UW GPA with about a 3.5 to 3.6 W GPA.
You haven't taken any SATs/ACTs yet, and you didn't mention extracurricular activities.

Based upon this you are a slight reach for Boston University and a reach for NC State.

You need to keep the 3.6 to 3.8 GPA this year and the first part of next. This could get your GPA up to around 3.4 UW and 3.7 W. With this and decent SAT scores, you would be a match at Boston University and a slight reach for NC State. With excellent SATs you could possibly be a match for both.

In addition to this, you also need to start being active in some extracurriculars--especially service clubs and some volunteer service that helps the community.

Good luck to you. Write back next year and let us know how you are doing.
