Prompt 2

Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below.

I spent some part of every year at the farm until I was twelve or thirteen years old. The life that I led there was full of charm and so is the memory of it yet. I can call back the faint odors of wildflowers, the sheen of rain-washed foliage, the clatter of raindrops when the wind shook the trees, and the far-off hammering of woodpeckers. I can call back the prairie—and its loneliness and peace.

Assignment:

Is it important for people to spend time outdoors and to learn to appreciate the natural environment? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

If people had never spent time outdoors, nature's true value in inspiring and bringing peace to others would have been lost forever. Throughout mankind's history, nature has provided functional examples such as animals that help serve as the blueprints for future innovations. Its inspirational abilities comes from its simplicity; its simplicity also allows nature to act as comforter achieving tranquility away from the industrial life.
Mankind has always looked to nature for many kinds of inspirations such as art and innovation. One example is when scientists were trying to improve a boat's design in order to increase its speed underwater. The scientists struggled in coming up with a technical solution to their problem; their efforts to increase the engine's power to increase speed had failed. It was not until the scientists had turned to nature that they had discovered a viable solution. They had observed how penguins used their anatomical design to propel themselves quickly and efficiently; the penguins used their flippers to swim with great celerity under the water. The scientists had found a natural solution to their natural problem.
Not only does nature provide inspiration for innovation, nature also provides a means to escape the hectic complexities of life and to find peace and tranquility. The average person usually finds him or herself obsessing over the man-made "manufactured product." He or she either spends too much time buying the product or too much time working to attain enough money to buy the product. However, within nature a person is able to break this chain of obsession. An example of this is the life of Henry David Thoreau, who utilized nature to find peace by escaping the industrial way of thinking. Henry was a busy man who worked meticulously at his occupation of an educator. However, one day he found his monotonous daily routine centered on money was overwhelming. He decided to abandon his old ways and live in the outdoors solely relying on nature. In his, decision he found solace in the nature and its separation from the hectic industrial life.
Nature is something to be appreciated because of its numerous benefits. Nature can provided the muse to innovation and the escape from industry to attain peace of mind. Spending time in the outdoors has truly allowed us to discover these values.

Too short. WAY too short. Examples are rambling and seems like you were stretching it to fit.

sorry, there was supposed to be a paragraph break before “Not only…”
How can I write more with better quality but faster?

If you have an essay structure fixed in your mind then you’ll know what to do.

Intro (open up the topic)
Point 1 (For)
Point 2 (Against)
Point 3 (if possible)
Conclusion (wrap up and concluding remarks)

Immediately you think of your two or three examples/points and you just write as well and fast as you can about them. Time yourself and practice. Hmmm… I’m taking the SATs tomorrow.
