Hey what do you guys think about the new reality tv show (ABC) to be coming up called the Scholar?

I'll be watching it.

Re: the "Scholar" tv show

Hope it is better than what they did with America's Smartest Kid. Remember that? My daughter was supposed to be on the 2nd installment of that show. Thank goodness one series was enough! As a gifted advocate, I wish I could say I was shocked by the old cliches coming to the forefront again (mental computation heavily stressed, no knowledge of any "arts" genres, the field was mostly boys, etc.)
Maybe it will be entertaining & smart as well. Who knows?

Haha, I'll be watching that too...Watch them crack under the pressure on camera.

On a side note, I just realized I use waaay too many ellipses in my posts. Is it annoying? ...I need to stop.

what's this show about?

Do you think that they will stereotype these kids? Ok, probably yes. But i guess the better question is...do you think that they are picking students based on the "kind" of people they are looking for? Or based on how much of "scholar" material you are?

did anyone on here actually apply to this?

It really doesn't make sense to me. Even if you have 120 K from this show, that doesn't mean you will make it into Harvard or Yale.

sounds corny

so.. what's this show is all about ??? i have no idea -0- i dont the reality show.. (it's not real after all) and wonder how they are going to paint these kids..
oh what kinda kids would be selected anyway??? like 1600 sat / 5.0 GPA ??? or what?

I actually applied to be on it...don't laugh at me :) I'm pretty sure they'll pick based on what they perceive your personality to be + how it'll fit with the other kids. They probably want the most interesting rather than the smartest people...hopefully that will be me, because the application was gruesome and I spent wayyy too much time on it.

For those who don't know, The Scholar is a reality TV show that will premiere on ABC next year. 15 high school seniors compete for a full scholarship to the college of their choice. They describe the competitions as academic/athletic/service/leadership, but don't really go into detail

wow...you applied? that application looked BRUTAL

and about not picking the smartest: that is obvious. sure, the people will be smart, but ABC wants ratings, not philanthropy
