the school of media and public affairs

i know that the competition to get into this school is much harder than the college. but i'm wondering, does anyone know if it's easier to apply to the school from the start, or to go to gwu for political science and then transfer into the program sophomore year?

political communications is exactly what i want to do, and i'm considering applying to smpa edII, unless it's too much of a stretch, and then i'd use my edII for tufts.

for anyone who is familiar with the school, a little about me:

satI: verbal - 710, math - 680, writing - 680 (1390/2070)
satII: us history - 750, world history - 720
my gpa is 96.7 unweighted, class rank is 6/148.
i've taken 3 of the 4 aps my school offers,
varsity cross country, indoor track, and tennis for 4 years,
religious youth group 4 years,
lgbtq youth group for 3 years,
volunteer at my library for 3 years,
volunteered for democratic congressman in my district,
travelled to england for 2 and a half weeks as part of a foreign exchange program i'm in
other smaller things..

My sister got in with a 1490 and slightly lower GPA as a poli comm major. However, her activities were better geared toward poli comm/SMPA, I think - her most significant EC (including leadership positions) was being part of the radio station at our school (FCC license and all). Plus community involvement and some political stuff.

I think you're qualified academically but your EC's may not be as SMPA-geared as they might like. You can probably pull through if your essays are strong and cohesive.

I'm guessing it's much harder to get in as an inter-college transfer than as a freshman. If SMPA is what you want to do, apply there now.

Um, Tufts is harder to get into than any school at GWU. So you'd have a better chance at GWU than Tufts no matter what.

Apply directly -- It's incredibly competitive to transfer into as a sophomore and there are also a ton of required courses for SMPA.
