The schools that are bashed the most on CC

i think out of all the ivies, cornell and brown are bashed most

I concur@joy

Add Penn to that list as well.

Harvard, from what I've seen, is either HIGHLY overrated or bashed. I don't see much in the middle. And I don't seem to find that extremist outlook about Yale or Princeton.

OVERATED=Duke, UChicago, Emory, UTexas, & UVirginia
UNDERATED & BASHED TOO OFTEN: USC, Tufts, & WashU

I think most UC schools (minus Berkeley) are pretty unfairly bashed, as in University of Sex and Beer (UC Santa Barbara) and such...I know those aren't just CC nicknames, but still.

I think that Ivies are "bashed" differently because if you say you want to go to one you are a USNW&R-worshipping-prestige-whore-
who-will-never-amount-to-anything-
but-a-shallow-person-who-judges-books-by -their-covers.

Or...that's the feel I get sometimes.

^^ I don't think that "minus Berkeley" is valid. Berkeley takes a lot of heat on these boards, most of the time unnecessary. I believe one person went as far to call those who attend "state school trolls" or something akin to that.

I agree with J07. It seems like no one believes a person might actually want to go to an Ivy because it is the "best fitting" school.

Washu gets bashed alot.
but its time to accept the truth."it has become one of the best universities in the nation whatsoever"

Caliboi, WashU is hardly underrated.

I completely agree (good to see you again, by the way!). I can't count the number of times I've had to [url="<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showpost.php?p=3882772&postcount=61%22%5Djustify%5B/url">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showpost.php?p=3882772&postcount=61"]justify[/url</a>] my decision to attend an Ivy to people because they just can't believe the school has anything to offer besides the name at the top of the diploma. Somehow it's unfathomable that I might actually have chosen it because I'm happy there.

I dont judge people as so for applying to Ivies, but I feel like 90% of the time people apply/attend for all the wrong reasons i.e. anything but fit.

I agree with you. Many people view those whom attend IVies as snobs and extremely judgemental people whom think they are better than others. That is true for some people, but it's like you guys said, people also go to Ivies because they love them.

I fell in love with Cornell, and I know you guys fell in love with Dartmouth and Penn.

It's unfair and unfortunate that people judge all of us because of the actions of few. Oh well, history repeats itself.

I agree with you as well...and this is one of the examples that I cite when advising people about choosing between an Ivy and a non-Ivy school--there are lots of good reasons to go to an Ivy, and while name-recognition can be a plus, it can also be a minus. To me, Ivies are just like every other school--you should pick first and foremost based on fit. People can and do get unhappy--very unhappy--at Ivies and other "dream" schools.

Of course, I would note that pleny of people are judged unfairly by their college choice, from the most to the least selective schools in the country and everywhere in between.

But anyway, I have to agree with the prevailing consensus on the thread...WashU, NU, U of C, and Duke are 4 of the most bashed schools on CC, period.

Vandy is often bashed as Southern and socially oriented (by folks who are Northern and geeks?). Oddly enough, in the South, some think of it as a Northern oriented school for geeky academically inclined kids.

Bridgeport. Just give it a chance, okay J.

COUNT ME IN ON BPORT possibly weneck too

UC Riverside. /thread. :p

Northern oriented school for geeky academically inclined kids

Very true. I live very, very close to Vandy, and I can't tell you how many people here who I know would flourish at Vandy don't apply because they think it'll be overrun with either sorority girls or Northerners with no lives. Caught between two stereotypes.

I think thats the same problem NU and Duke sometimes have...though to a lesser degree

i have never heard of this stereotype. please enlighten me as to what the hell southerners think about us.
