i would probably kill myself if i went to: wright state, U Dayton, Miami (ohio), any of those over-zealous religious schools (something like notre dame wouldn't be too bad, but that's about at the limit), any community/junior college, or any of those online colleges or those ones you see advertised on tv for "starting a 2nd career" (ITT tech, etc.)

oh i forgot to mention, i wouldn't go to ANY of the military academies, also toledo, cincinnatti, ohio u, or bowling green.
haha i now realize that i am showing an extreme bias aginst ohio...
well pretty much the bottom 2/3 of my high school class will be going to these places... at least 20% to UD, making it and wright state (where all those just above community college level from my school go) the ABSOLUTE WORST schools i can imagine attending. haha on a personal note, my father was fired from UD like 10 years ago...

OU and MU are solid schools though (with Cincy and Bowling Green having a few good programs)

Of the top 15,

Cornell
Duke

4 years in the boonies doesn't quite cut it for me.

More people live in Durham than Evanston and it's next to Raleigh...

Evanston is an affluent neighborhood of the North Shore. Not many people can afford to live in Evanston with the exception of, perhaps, West Evanston. Downtown Evanston, however, is just across the street from the dorms down south and is called the food capital of the North Shore, where residents from Chicagoland actually make the trip to come enjoy the unique bistros and restaurants.

And Raleigh unfortuantely doesn't come anywhere near Chicago. Afterall, with the jazz, the deepdish, the art and the diversity, Chicago is Chicago and only a half-an-hour trip from campus; I'm not sure how Durham is even comparable to the location of NU.

NYU, Columbia, Cornell, basically anything in New York state because I'm from the city.

Basically anywhere in NYS and not in New England = bust.

UNL (university of Nebraska at Lincoln)

Like a third of my school goes there, even the smart people, and I don't understand why D: It's really not that great, but everyone loves it.

I have vowed that I will never ever go there.

Elon...seriously, I am not sure how the hell people are selling this school. It is not that great. I am from north carolina and I am tired of people from the north east drinking the kool aid and believing that Elon is some great place. Honestly, anyone from North Carolina with half a brain does not consider Elon a decent choice for college. The reason they recruit so hard up north is because NOBODY IN NORTH CAROLINA WANTS TO GO THERE. Please, let's end this ridiculousness now.

I've been to Evanston. It's a very nice place and there's a chance my brother might go there.

For what it's worth, besides Austin, Texas, Raleigh is like the absolute best music scene in the US. Chicago doesnt compare. And obviously as a city Raleigh and Chicago are quite different and a ways away--I'm not denying that. But to say Durham (and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Triangle)= the boondocks? That's a load of bs.

You're kidding right? Chicago is the home of blues and jazz, the world-renown Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the famous rock, alternative rock, hip hop, dance festival Lollapalooaza held at Grant Park. I've never heard anyone compare Raleigh, North Carolina's music scene to Chicago's.

Durham maybe livelier than Ithaca, at best, but all I can say is that it won't cut it for kids wanting the culutre of a city like New York, Chicago, or LA. In the end, different things appeal to different kinds of people.

But to compare Raleigh's music to Chicago's, I'm sorry, is a bit outrageous. Maybe in country music. Maybe.

Nope, I'm not kidding.

Well then you're just misinformed.

I didnt say Chicago isn't up there. Who cares though?

jec7483, just a perspective: you say no one in N.C. wants to go to Elon, (which is not true, as 25% of their student body is from N.C.) but think about this- there are people here in N.J. who do not want to go to schools in our area, even if they are good schools, they are considered "typical." There are plenty of schools in Pa and NY that people view in a less then flattering way, that you in N.C. might think of as "a good school." Elon is a fine school, we know many people here in N.J who have gotten an excellent education there. (not just recent graduates, either) All depends on how you want to look at it, objective or not.

Yeah I don't understand what you have against Elon.

Maybe you did not get in? :(

University of Nebraska? One of my teachers went there and it gives out full rides to National Merit Scholars. Apparently, it has the highest percentage of NM Scholars there out of all colleges.

No, you know many people in NJ that WENT there. Seriously, it's brainwashed people from jersey like you that are the ones applying to Elon. Don't like the schools in your area? Ok, that's reasonable, but leaving the area to go to elon would be like me leaving North Carolina to go to a community college in Texas. True, it gets me away, but was it really worth the trip? Didn't get in? I don't know anyone in my class that applied that wasn't accepted. The comment about not getting in did make me chuckle. Sorry, but not all criticism towards a school derives from jealousy. 25%...don't you think that a school in the middle of the state would have a higher percentage than that? There's a reason for that, and it's not just that they are trying to diversify the student body with out-of-staters. The campus is beautiful, but it just doesn't have much beyond that. It is very low on most in-staters list for school choices. Oh yeah, this is a "The schools you would NEVER go to" thread. I explained that Elon was that place and why. If you don't like it, maybe you should go to a more upbeat thread and preach why Elon is the best school ever.

Notre Dame. Pretty much everyone in my town and school are OBSESSED, and I just don't get what the big deal is. I don't think Notre Dame would want me anyway; I'm just not the Notre Dame type. Plus I'm just so sick of the school. Sorry, my little rant is over. . .
