The Scottish Ivies

Does anyone know what kind of stats American students have to have in order to gain entry into the Scottish Ivies (specifically University of Edinburgh and University of Aberdeen if possible). And how do these schools make their picks of which American students can attend and which cannot?

Check out this link for Edinburgh: US qualifications | Entry requirements | Undergraduate study

And here's one for Aberdeen: University of Aberdeen – My Country

Alright the links are helpful but im still a little hazy on how the admissions process works. According to the University of Edinburgh's U.S. qualifications, there is a number of different options for applying. For instance, you can submit 3 AP scores with a 4 or above instead of submitting your SAT/ACT. Am I wrong cause this sounds really strange? Also, if you meet the qualifications for schools in Scotland, are you automatically admitted, so long as there are available spots for attendance?
