The screaming thread

<p>I was checking out some other grad results websites and it seems that a lot of programs are rolling out admissions. Why does it take so long to do math and physics phd admissions? There is not a quick turn around in the least.</p>

<p>I also think if someone else heard back and you didn’t, that does not necessarily mean you won’t get in. I think some schools take a wait and see approach; they have a first tier of students they definitely want in, and then a 2nd tier if some of the first tier go elsewhere, etc. I guess you would call this rolling admissions. I know Northwestern Math PhD does this and a few others. </p>
