The Secret to getting into Columbia

Everyone wants to know how they can get into Columbia University. The real answer is simple.

Have a Category 5 hurricane destroy your city and force you to evacuate for a few months. Easy as that.

Those people didn't/won't get Columbia degrees, did they? They're just visiting students for a year/term, no?

some were given the choice to stay as far as i know

lol studmuffin that was very blunt, true, hmm and you seem disturbed by that?

It was a category 3 hurricane.

Katrina was Category 5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Katrina

It's second landing was Category 3 because it weakened.

i know alot of people from new orleans going next year ..and with nice financial aid bc of katrina... thats what i meant.

and fyi it landed as a cat 3 but had a cat 5 storm surge

ha! so true...

You know how you get into Yale? Get a 4th grade education and join the Taliban.

hahahaha i read tht yale article in newsweek (i think). some what insightful. the ex-taliban man (and i say man because he has a family and is in his 30s) must have had one h ell of an essay. can you imagine his answer to "what was a significant experience in your life that defined who you are today?"

hahaha pindar that is a good one !!!

;) thanks

Secret is don't request housing.
Oh and don't write a masterpiece essay. Be humble and answer the question directly with no use of metaphor or higher rhetorical devices.

does not requesting housing really help you that much?

Sonny, I think you're selling yourself short. They won't just admit anyone who is willing to live off-campus. What you said here is important: "Be humble and answer the question directly with no use of metaphor or higher rhetorical devices."

That's the biggest problem with some essays. People either write how they talk, which is fine if you talk with perfect grammar, but mostly people overcompensate and make their essay so wordy and...mouthy. It's annoying to read and I'm sure the Admissions Committee hates reading them.

the housing thing is actually exactly the opposite....at columbia they want freshman to live on campus and 99% of them do

If you're borderline and they don't have any place to house you, you won't get in. But if you don't even need a place to stay, why wouldn't they take you? My roommate and I both applied as transfers to CC this semester and we both got accepted. Needless to say we opted not to request housing. I'm not saying it's a surefire thing, but if you absolutely have to get into columbia, why risk rejection by demanding housing?

Because I need a place to live? Haha, I am from PA so I couldn't commute, and I'm not about to try the Morningside Heights real estate market.

Sonnybobiche, you really don't have a clue about this. I suggest that you quit now.

Columbia knows that 99% of freshman will live on campus, and they have room for that. They accept a certain number of students every year to get a yield of about 1250 for CC and 300 for SEAS.

Because it is one of the top schools in the country. They're in the business of admitting top applicants, not applicants who don't need housing.

Do you know what a non sequitur is?

Because they'll reject you based on your credentials. They don't care whether you need housing. There's room.

sonny, your ignorance really doesnt even merit response. stop now. dont bother defending your lack of ( :insert body part here: ). you already look ridiculous.
