The Semi-Official Waitlist Waiting Thread

So I'm bored and about to start watching the Matrix (I saw a ytmnd featuring matrix music and now have to watch it)

Anyway, to all of those unfortunate waitlisted students who are obsessed with Caltech--good luck! We should find out relatively soon (next week or two) if the admissions officers take anyone off the waitlist at all.

As for me personally my backup is Carnegie Mellon's CIT. I think it's a good school and will definitely enjoy going there if that's where I end up, but I can't stop shaking the feeling that I belong at Caltech.

Thanks to all of this forum's readers and especially Ben Golub for making the college admissions process as enjoyable as possible.

I freed up a spot by matriculating at Stanford. Good luck!

thanks for the well wishes :)

Ironic... I too was waitlisted from Caltech, and am planning on going to Carnegie Mellon. I ended up choosing SCS over CIT, although I probably will still double major in ECE. Im also considering either math or physics for my double major along with CS.

Although getting into Caltech off the waitlist would be really really really awesome, Im quite happy with where Im going.

I've been constantly in the dark about college admissions until just too late. I only applied to four schools, rejected one(MIT), accepted with a very good scholarship at another (WPI), but I didn't realize how bad their other fin. aid was, and after visiting I liked it less than I thought I would (still looked great, but I'm more theoretical, and they seemed very applied, regarding the sciences), and I got waitlisted for the top scholarship at Uni. of Alabama (somehow my scholarship over four years differs almost $43,000 (the top scholarship vs what I was offered)).

So, I should've applied to many more places I know, but at this point, all I can do is hope that Caltech somehow decides to accept me, and register for housing at UA.

Edit: Thanks, frank. ;) I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun at Stanford.

Edit 2: I forgot to mention. Two of my friends are going to CMU, also. Their first choices, iirc.

Edit 3: (sorry, I'm tired, can't think of everything at once ;)) Lizzardfire, you say a week or two. Is this guess, or based on info from previous years, or what?

No, this is based on the fact that people accepted to Caltech have to have their deposits postmarked by May 1st (tomorrow) to get in. So in a week or two Caltech will have recieved deposits from all of those enrolling and will know if they need to take students off the waitlist or not.

waitlist for me too! I sent Statement of Intent to Register to UC Berkeley. Im a pre-med, so I think I will just go to Cal instead of Caltech.

Did you decide to stay on the Tech waitlist BlueElmo?

i did. But i also might go to caltech if i get accepted, i really dont know right now.

I am in the same possition but I actually turned down CMU for Case Western because of a 70K differnce in price over four years.

Does anyone know if Caltech sends 'sorry, you no longer have any chance' letters, or do they just let you assume that you weren't accepted?

I just hope that this isn't another one of the '0 acceptances off waitlist' years..

I'm sure Ben will let us know when he finds out.

I personally am curious about waitlist financial aid... Even though I was waitlisted at Caltech, my parents have pretty much said I'm not allowed to go unless I get a lot of money b/c I just got a full ride to ND... I know I shouldn't be disappointed, but a dream is a dream and it dies hard
