I plan to get an internship during the summer before my senior year. After I get the internship, what do I do for the competition? Do i just submit the prof.'s research? Or do I have to do a completely sepreate project? I am really confused and if someone could provide me with a guide, it would be really helpful.

Of course you cannot submit the professor’s research. If it is an internship as in you spend the summer helping the professor with his work, then you cannot submit to competitions. You need a standalone project that represents your own work to submit. Ask the prof. about the nature of the internship, and if he gives you the option, ask to do your own project under his supervision.
