In all the emails I received from colleges, links are always in the form of “mx.techsolutions.net/blahblah”. Furthermore, I noticed an uncanny resemblance between the application login portals of virtually all colleges. Even MIT, which doesn’t use CA, has a login UI similar to every other. Does this mean all colleges in the US use the same ‘system’? How come, and since when? I’m just curious, but standing from a security POV, if that techsolutions company goes down, or if the app platform is hacked, who knows what consequences will follow.
Yes, many schools outsource the technology used for admissions-related activities to a large vendor. Just like they likely do for internal financial functions, HR management, etc.
It’s incredibly inefficient for a school to develop and maintain software for a function when many packages/shared solutions are available.
