The South

just to set the record straight

it's the intro to aaliyah's "are you that somebody?"...you know...that song from the first dr. dolittle movie that was really famous. anyway...

"the south is dirty"

retard statement of the year.

you want dirty go to LA or detroit.

or the cess that lines the street of baltimore

Does northern VA count as South?

[/quote]

Yes, NOVA is considered geographically in the South.

^Much to the dismay of people living in Northern Va. :P

Hey now! !

It's true...some people in Northern Va claim that Northern Va is not like the rest of the state and that it has its own culture. They subtly show their disdain for the "southern culture". They don't want to be associated with the stigma of being Southern.

Even down where I live people tell me that VA is not "really" a part of the South...kind of like Florida is not "really" a part of the South. I am not sure how that works.

no one considers MD part of the south, and northerners say we're not part of the north cuz we're south of the mason dixon line

I agree...MD is in that limbo. I don't know where to place it.

I know what you mean. I dont want to be telling people that ive been living in Georgia all my life.

I just accept VA is in the South and move on with my life. It's not a real big problem. Still, I don't want to live here forever...I would like to go to another region someday.

As for the OP's post...life doesn't seem slow where I live. My house may be in the rural part of the city, but the city is big enough with over 500,000+. I can never find enough time to do the things I want to do...like getting the things I need for my dorm.

Is Hampton Roads that large? Surprising: I thought there were only about 300000 in that area maximum.

Yeah...over 1 million in the MSA. My city alone has around 500,000. I believe it is the largest city in VA. The word city is kind of misleading...it's more like one large sprawling city suburb.

Norfolk, VB, and something else.
But then again, people call LA a city. The real LA itself has ~50000 people, but when expanded to its almost 50 suburbs that make up the 'city' of LA it has more than 3 million, and its metro area has near 8.

Thing is we are only a city...we don't have county. That 500,000-ish figure includes everyone in the city.

The idea of a county was foreign to me when I was younger...I didn't know what they were since I never lived in one. :P

It's a Border State - shares many social characteristics with the South but politically aligns with the north, just like in the Civil War.

Or Mid-Atlantic for regions....

Detroit isn't really that dirty

i guess is the "that" that kills it.
