The southasian thread

yea the benchwarmers at Real could start their own club and still be able to challenge the league leaders! ....well maybe not but you know what i mean.

yea maybe they can, but cmon they dont play like a team! its like every1's playing for himself

perhaps you could say that about a few players, though i don't believe everyone's like that.

btw, what's the formula for compound interest?

the formula of compound interest i.e., the value of ur investment after a time t with compounding m times in a year, rate of interest p and principal P, is
V(t)= [(1+r/m)^tm]P
if it is compounded annually, for a period of 2 years and interest of 10% i.e, rate of 0.1, over a principal of 1000 rs.
V(t) = [(1+0.1)^2] * 1000
= [(1.1)^2]1000
= [1.21]*1000
= 1210

I hope that helped!!! :)

thanks a lot. actually preparing for the june SAT and came across a question that included compound interest. hopefully i'll do well. :D

compound interest in sat? math 2c?
neways best of luck for the sats!!

no, it's the new SAT math. but actually it was my friend who said he came across such a question. and it has matrix too! but matrix isnt' too difficult.

ye coz the new SAT covers Algebra II which consists of compound interest , matrices, etc. Its easy stuff...

jai6638: are you taking the new SAT too?

I will be in October...

ok, but that does make the sat slightly difficult, it was laughable before!

laughable? wow! no wonder you're going to princeton!
i didn't do too well on my old SAT :( .

havent taken the SAT before.... October's gonna be my first time :p.. Hope it goes well!

won't you be missing ED deadlines by taking the SAT in october? otoh, you may not be applying ED! anyway, good luck. n wish me luck for saturday.

Good luck dude... regarding ED, I dunno... I thought ED deadlines are in November? I havent started visiting colleges yet... shall probably start in august or so..

Btw whats the difference between ED and EA? Apparently ED is binding and EA is not... EA seems like a good deal since you get a faster decision and can apply to multiple colleges.. What's the catch?

oh yea, ED deadlines are in november. If the SAT is towards the end of October it might still be difficult to make it in time though. I'll be taking the SAT II's in october so i hope that is not the case.

Order of perceived superiority as far as better chances (a stupid notion) is concerned: ED > SCEA > EA

So supposedly you won't get as much of a boost as if you applied somewhere ED or Single Choice EA... but just don't give a f about all that and apply where you really want to and think you're a solid candidate for

i don't think there is any catch in EA. It's just faster decision, and if you get admitted, lesser tension and hassle. But i guess ED applicants have the edge over EA applicants because ED is binding.

Cornell for one clearly states that "Because we consider enthusiasm for Cornell a plus, early decision applicants stand a somewhat better chance of gaining admission".

From what I know, EA is just about getting your decision early to avoid the hassle, as has already been said. ED, however, is binding, which in turn means that you are showing committment to a school and will enroll. This automatically improves your chances of being accepted by the college. Although there is that distinctive advantage when applying ED, you need to be absolutely certain that the school you are applying ED to is your best choice. I applied ED to the college I wanted to go most but was rejected so I applied ED II to the college that was 2nd on my list. Luckily I got in and am pleased about it. SOme of my friends, however, applied ED and ED II to colleges that they were not really sure about and are sort of regretting the decision after being accepted. SO it is important that you identify where you really want to spend the next four years before applying ED.
GOod luck to all
