Ugh, although I'm a little bit disappointed, life goes on.

I agree about the warning. It was a shock when I saw the email.

I'm glad there was no warning, so I wasn't anticipating it and there was no climatic build up :P

lol
for me i was playing left four dead and i died during a horde attack because of the "You've Got Mail!" sound + popup.

I was like "***! Now the freaking zombie is tearing my body to pieces. Freak!"

Then i checked my mail.

Then I went into l4d and was like, "sorry guys later"

lol. Then I sat there and read the letter i think like 5 times.

even though i got in, i maintain that the admissions process is completely arbitrary
i can look on the decisions thread and find 20 people who deserve this as much, if not more, than i
my greatest advice, i would think, to people who are applying to other schools (not that im an expert lol) is to try and portray who you truly are through your essays, rather than merely relying on your stats to get in.
because i mean, i had good test scores, with a 34 on the ACT and a 710, 750, and 760 on the SAT 2s, but they certainly werent better than anyone else's
but i just wrote essays that really showed who i was as an individual

take it for what it's worth - my intent here is not to preach to you or sound pretentious!
but remember that i really, really, really love you all!!!!!

Oh well, in my view I tried my best; it just didn't work out in the end.
Sure I'm a bit disappointed, because I spent 3 months writing the essays which ended up being very strong. But in the end, I did not have the test scores or extracurriculars to back the essays up.

So far Stanford isn't being kind to the early applicants from my school. 3 of us have been rejected and I haven't talked to the other 2.

I'm just excited to see where I end up. I still have 5 schools that I love, so I'm not upset. Hey maybe if I get accepted by Cal (hopefully!) I'll see those of you Stanford '13-ers from CC at sporting events and such. We shall reunite eventually! Mwahahah!

Btdubs, I'm sooo going to apply to Stanford for graduate school. I'll be back.

Ahhhh this is depressing. I got rejected too. I agree with Manzagal3; I'm going to apply there for Graduate school. :(

Wow, I'm not even remotely Stanford competitive, but in my eyes you guys are all incredible students. I'm shocked so many got rejected... I really don't know what's going on this year. The ED results were weird all across the board. I myself was just rejected from Cornell, which surprised just about every one of my friends. I just learned one of my friends who I hold in very high regard and had amazing GPA and EC's and solid test scores got rejected. My sincere condolences to all of you, for all it's worth. You all are still the top students in the nation and in the world, so don't doubt yourself. Going to HYP still isn't bad, eh? =)

the people who made it...........really are amazing...this year was the most competitive by far, and the acceptees ahd to be nothign short of mindblowing. congrats to all. and condolonces to fellow denied seniors.

I'm from the Yale thread, but I also applied to Stanford and honestly, it sounds like they just decided this was the year to shake up everything... and I don't see the reasoning behind it. Hope everything turns out okay for everyone rejected/deferred or even accepted. So yep, I'm anxiously waiting for the slaughter on Monday....

omg.................................... stanford.................

A friend of mine ran out of space on the legacy list. She had both parents, two uncles, a great uncle, several cousins, and a couple grandparents, plus solid stats. Didn't get in. It truly is surprising.

I've heard from alot of people that Stanford's SCEA was going to be alot more competitive this year with Harvard and Princeton eliminating early apps. If Stanford underenrolls for EA (like they use to overenroll), due to the hordes of Harvard/Princeton first choice students, how do they make up the numbers? Do they take more from the RD pool than normal? If they did, I'd feel pretty ticked having applied SCEA...

^^ I don't know. After hearing so many people applying EA or ED, everywhere to "try to get a better chance," I realized something seemed terribly wrong when I saw 90% of my friends applying early to a school. It didn't seem to make sense when so many qualified people aim for the same decision cycle -- there were just too many people with too high of stats to make it "easier" to get in with.

At first, I was really mad that I didn't push myself to finish my app in time for Stanford SCEA. After looking at this, I am sort of relieved but mostly shocked and scared now for RD. I really don't know what to expect. My condolences truly go out to those who got rejected - many of you guys seriously did not deserve that.

In addition, the early e-mail was a shock too. I was waiting for Monday to hear from everyone, but this is just surprising to hear they released it 3 days early.

In my computer science class one of our homework assignments was to program a "Stanford Admissions" game that tells you whether you are accepted to Stanford or not. The basis: age (odd/even), sum of digits of height (in inches), SAT score.
It's my teacher's way of showing how random Stanford's admission decisions really are.

Such a bad time to go to college...

Gosh. All the people from my school who applied SCEA got rejected and they were all so brilliant! Maybe someone from Stanford should explain what happened.

I dunno. For some reason, I can't sleep cuz of what happened here. Maybe I wasn't aware of the Dartmouth and Cornell boards, but this is really a huge shock to me.

Anyone else in the same state or am I just going insane?

Stanford FAQs

Ultimately, we will offer admission to fewer than 9% of the approximately 27,000 students expected to apply.
