The Stupid Things People Say

What are the stupidest things you've heard people at your college say?

I'll start: This guy in my political science class said that only people who have college degrees should be able to vote in elections. Doesn't make too much sense to me, as most of the kids I go to school with are highly apathetic and know nothing about politics, and some of the people I know who are very interested in politics do not have a college degree. Just my personal experience.

i don't endorse what that guy said, but it does make sense. i think his idea is to have people who are educated to vote. of course, he probably means general and overall. someone (forgot who, some educated guy I think) suggested that people should have voter points. such as, the higher education you have, the more points you have. it makes sense, but i don't agree with it.

I feel like it's one of those things that makes sense on paper, but not at all in real life. I understand the logic behind it, but it is definitely unfair, IMO.

How about this one: Today in the dining hall line, one girl said, "Creole? I don't even know what that means."

wow. i dont know what that means

I think the kid claiming "all voters must have a college degree" was just trying to find a way to weed out uneducated voters. Maybe the better solution for that would be having to take a "mini-test" on each candidates' views before registering to vote?

Sabster, i think you're right, and the reality is that many (most) Americans DO vote without any real understanding of public policy or candidates' beliefs; unfortunately, it is unlikely that the better-educated in society would have the less-fortunate and/or less-educated in mind when voting for a candidate

If that were true, the Democrats would take it every time. Studies show that higher education tends to increase liberalism.

Not that that's a bad thing..

"Not that that's a bad thing.."
It is when conservatives idealist pundits use "conservative intellectual" as an insult. XD

Kinda elitist

First-year Calculus is Hard

The biggest irony is that it's said by those who got over 90% in high school calculus or AP calculus.

ahh, give them a literacy test! Excellent!

^they actually used to do that back in the day only the problem was they used it unfairly towards the African American voters.

Literacy test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yeah, and that was ruled unconstitutional...IIRC. So i don't think the mini-test would work unless the mere completion of one is the condition to registering to vote instead of a passing grade. One could make an argument for that, but it would be shaky

"I believe in God"

I believe in God. If you don't, that's your business. There's no need to be unnecessarily rude and hostile in impugning others' beliefs.

^^ I agree, SBR. That's always been a deciding reason why I avoid threads regarding religion or even religious topics at all cost. There's always someone who feels superior because of their beliefs or lack of.

haha yea, that was my point =P

^oh good that's what I thought lol :)

Some horribly stupid things, like a white kid in the middle of a UVM dining hall yelling, "Wassup niggas?" to his white friends. Stupid Massachusetts trash.

"I cant get an std, I take birth control pills almost everyday"---I was speechless when I heard that
