Does anyone have any idea what they're doing the summer between high school and college? I'd like to make some money, but I'd like to also do something with educational value. I can't do something that COSTS a lot of money, whether it be living expenses or a fee. What are interesting options available? I'm interested in research, social sciences, history, etc., but everything goes to college students!

I'm going to do a 5 week homestay program in France. But in my high school, everyone's required to do an internship from mid-May to mid-June, so if I manage to get a nice internship (physics/med research), I'll stay for the rest of the summer. No idea how to get one, though. I actually went to the Pfizer Pharmaceuticals website yesterday, but the only internships listed are in California and one other state (midwest). I do know a Columbia professor, though...

I'm having the exact same dilemma. The past two summers, I've been taking classes at Brown, but that's not really an option for this summer.

I DO NOT want to just sit around like I did before I discovered the Brown program.

Travel. Work (you'll need the money). Do research. Go to a Summer Program. Volunteer. Facebook and IM your future classmates(keep this in mind when you start getting those acceptance packages). But for God's sake don't sit there! I went to Japan this summer and I'm so glad that I went because now I have something to talk about when my friend's roommate starts describing his summer at an Indian reservation in Arizona. Even though it's probably going to be your only free summer... ever... do something with it.

I want to! I really want to do research or something, but I don't know how to get involved. I would like to make money, but as long as I don't do anything that costs money, that's ok. Does anyone have a specific idea? I'm interested in history, political science, education, etc. I'm already in college: What's next?
