I've been waiting patiently for someone to create a progress thread for us summer study-ers, because I've seen that there are a lot. Since there hasn't been one yet, I'm doing it myself, with a nod to the lovely @IceQube who had the original idea and created an awesome progress thread (done during the summer!).

So, post your goals, and come here to be held accountable, get study advice, get help, and to just study with some other dedicated CC'ers.

I'm going for a 2300+. I took my first practice test from the BB a little bit ago, and I got a 2,060, with no prep, up from a sophomore PSAT score of 197. I'm going to be a junior, and I'm looking to knock out the SAT in October so I don't have to worry about it.

I plan to post my progress every day here to be held accountable, because otherwise, I get waaay too lazy.

Well for me, I’m mainly just going to be working on my critical reading and writing portions.
Writing portions-Making sure I know all the grammer and stuff, and the tricks CB tries to pull
CR-I guess practice, i think thats really the only way to prep for it

As far as goals, I got a 1910 on one of my practice SATs from the blue book, I’m planning to get that raised to 2250+ for my actual SAT. I’ll be doing those practice SATs like once a week or something.

Progress wise, I really don’t have a set plan, which is going to make me super lazy and procrastinate my studying a bit, but not really sure what I should do as a set plan.

Oh and since the PSAT is a smaller version of the SAT, would working on the SAT help with getting the National Merit Scholar thing?

I’m an international student taking the SATs for the first time this October so I am a little nervous. English is not my first language so the SAT is actually kind of difficult for me. I took the very first practice test from the BB and got a 1810. I was actually very happy about this lol XD The math section was the only section I felt confident about. The writing and the critical reading sections (I want jackals to s**t on this unholy and unforgiving CR section, I got 540 ): ) were the worst ugh! I bought the first volume of Direct Hits and I’ve memorized the first 130 already.

Regarding my study plan, I was thinking that I will do 2 sections in the practice tests in order in the BB each day. So, right now I’m in the second practice test and each day I will do two sections from it and then I review all the questions I missed. I’m also studying Direct Hits and making my own vocab list from the words I do not understand in the practice exams. This is pretty much all I’ve got planned so far.

My goal is also the elusive 2300+ but I really doubt I will do that well. Although I’m not really doing the practice tests in “one go”; because,I’m doing two sections each day, I will still post my grades from the practice tests here so you guys (and also for my own benefit) can see how I progress. So far, It feels like I’m doing better already. I learned how the test was structured and what type of questions were on the test on my first practice test so, I think I will do better than 1810 the next time.

@Zeppelin7: It looks like you’re already doing really well!! I want to be taking a practice test every two weeks for now, and then I think I’ll ramp it up to once a week as October approaches. Studying for the SAT definitely helps with getting NMF! That’s one of the reasons I want to take the SAT in October, because I’ll be taking the PSAT then anyways.

@maturk: A 1810 is fantastic, especially because English isn’t your first language!! I have Direct Hits and I’ve started going through it, although I’m thinking about making flashcards for the words that I really don’t know, and just keep a running list (writing things down helps me memorize!) for the words I’m already familiar with.

//

I’ve been SO caught up with the World Cup lately, it’s really distracting me from SAT studying. My plan today is to learn 10 new vocab words, make flashcards, work a little more on writing (my lowest category, I suck at grammar), and to finish going through my mistakes for my first practice test.

@Almondjoy7 Same! I just ended up working with the World Cup in the Background, so whenever something big happens (goal scored) I hear the noise and see the replay (Though of course fully watch all the good matches). I think I’m just going to do a bunch of practice tests and such, hopefully that’ll help

I finished the second practice test in the BB and got a 1900. Math: 680 CR: 620 W: 600. I’m glad that all of my sections are 600+;however, there is still a lot of work to get them to the 700s. I seem to always make silly mistakes in the Math section and I’m still very poor in the reading and writing sections. Gotta study study study! My goal for this summer and for the October SAT test is to get all the sections to 700+.

@Zeppelin7: The World Cup is only getting better and better, so that’s what I’ve started doing haha. Half watching the game, studying the rest of the time.

@maturk: Looks like you’re doing fantastically!! Silly mistakes are the easiest to weed out once you get timing down, so I definitely think you’ll be able to achieve your goal.

//

I finished going through my practice test, and now I’m going to spend some time working on writing and really getting grammar rules down. I also need to work on my essays, any ideas on how to improve?

@Almondjoy7 Well with the Cup picking up now, it’s way harder to actually work, but hopefully I have the willpower to force myself to try; to improve, after finishing a practice test, look at every question you got wrong and, in detail, look at why each answer choice is correct or wrong according to the grammer rules, takes alot of time, but I think I that’ll help

Progress so far: Not much, though I have pinpointed that I majorily suck at writing MC; I have started looking at ways to improve it

@Zeppelin7: That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing while reviewing my practice tests, and I’ve actually been writing down the questions that I missed so I can go back through them later. Writing MC is also my worst area, so I’ve got to figure out this grammar business, ugh.

@Almondjoy Me too man! I’m terrible at the writing section. I always get around 600-640 on this section. I just ordered The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar by Erica Meltzer. I heard a lot of good things about this on CC forums so I hope it helps a lot. It was only 23 euros from where I bought it. But; I bet its probably cheaper in America.

Got a 1940 on the June SAT. (630 CR (wayyy lower than practice tests), 620M and 690W 10 essay).
Mind if I join? This will motivate me to study. I tried to hit 2,000 this June but didn’t

Thanks for taking the lead on starting this, @Almondjoy7 . I’m aiming for 2300+ but haven’t been studying too much just yet… does anyone have Erica Metlzer’s SAT Grammar Guide? I got one from my library and would like a study buddy. Just someone for encouragement and maybe any questions that come up (though I’m pretty good at grammar, so i’m not too worried.)

I’m going to be happy if I at least get a 2000+ on my SAT. I have one chance left in these upcoming months since I’m also focusing on subject tests.

I’m going to be a junior this upcoming fall, and I’m going to be taking the SAT in October. I am currently in a SAT prep class with Princeton Review. My first practice test which I took around 3 weeks ago I got a 1760 (580 M 570 CR 610 W 8 Essay) because I was really distracted and not very enthusiastic about taking the test. This past weekend I took another practice test and got a 1970 (650 M, 660 CR, 660 W 11 Essay). I am aiming for 700+ in each section in October. When I’m not studying with the Princeton Review stuff I’m doing sections out of the Blue Book. Hopefully I can get a 2100-2250 in October. I hope the magical Blue Book teaches me the way of the 2200.

Princeton review and the barrons and all the fat books that include all the 3 are only good for getting used to the format and stuff. If you’re already at that stage and looking for improvement you should use the books that are separate for each section
Writing MC- Erica’s ultimate guide to sat grammar
Essay - How to write a killer SAT essay in 25 minutes
Math - if you’re already consistently 700+ then use Dr chungs book
CR - hardest to improve , read through recommended CC posts

I took the SAT twice cr/writing/math(1.650/700/740) 2.(700/780/800)

Chunggs got me the 800 after my 740
Ericas was used both times.

I’m using the summer to study as well. Right now I’m focusing on CR, and went from a 600 on the May exam (ouch), to a 660 on my first practice test yesterday, with an ultimate CR goal of ~720-750.

Who else has already set goals for themselves?
