The Tennis Thread

ATP and WTA are miles apart. Many people hypothesize that any top 800 male player could beat Serena 6-0 6-0. Apparently Mahesh Bhupathi once challenged her and bageled her.

It was Karsten Braasch. And he beat both sisters. And this was a player who smoked during change overs!

There was a transition away from faster surfaces as the perception that the game was too fast and that the serve-and-volley players were doing too well so everything slowed down, even grass. So the result is that athleticism wins over artistry these days. Mostly. A lot of fans like to watch Federer because he reminds them of the artistic days of tennis. That’s what came to my mind watching Schiavone today.

Simon was playing like a god in the second and third sets cry Now he’s just choking on the crowd hating him.

It was interesting to see Robredo vs Amalgro - two big looping one-handed backhands. The OHBH seems to be making a comeback. I see a few women using it these days.

What a match - and that it came from beating Almagro is the icing on the cake. Another day, another choke.

Year of the Tommy’s at RG! :)

Bethanie Mattek-Sands… someone please shoot me if I ever play a Grand Slam wearing knee-hi black socks

Haas victory was surprising - he’s 35 years old!

Apparently it was very cold last night. Haas and Youhzny were wearing long-sleeve stuff and Azerenka was wearing leggings.

Nishikori is really going for the lines in this match. He’s also playing with one knee strap and an ankle brace. Nadal just has the knee strap.

BM-S always looks the mess.

So happy for Tommy. Has now made qf’s in every major. Misha had his typical dismal performance at important stage of slam.

Gasquet :frowning: Got to watch most of the 4th set. Tragic. That 10 minute game.

I was picking Wawrinka so I was a bit surprised to see him lose the first two. Looks like he came though. I like both Gasquet and Wawrinka and they are both tough but I feel that Wawrinka is a little tougher.

Poor Richard - he must be gutted.

Tsonga!!! Make the final!

Allez Jo!! Should be an excellent semi and how nice if would it be if a Frenchie made the final after all these years - though I like David also. It’s always a shame when lovely boys have to play each other.

I suppose it’s too much to hope for that Tommy can pull off another win against the vile one but Hopp Tommy!

I’d love to see Haas in the final but Nadal seems to be playing well enough. I would not say that Nadal is playing his best tennis, but he seems to be able to turn it on when he needs to.

Ugh, Tsonga in the final of Paris would complete my life. The atmosphere would be crazy.

I’ll be happy with anyone but Nole. He’ll be even more insufferable if he wins RG.

^Basically, BUT TSONGA <3333333

Man, I’d love to see Tsonga make the final and win. The first time I ever joined “the queue” at Wimbledon and was lucky enough to score court 3 tickets, he was playing on court 3. He was such a delight and I always remember how everyone loved his victory dance. I’ve been a fan ever since. It was worth getting up at 4 a.m. just to see him. Would love to see him win.

I’ve been a big Djokovic fan ever since he came out to practice on one of the outside courts at Wimbledon where I was waiting with my brother for Petra Kvitov
