Sharapova match - THE DRAMA!

Glad Nishikori got out of the heat quickly today.

We had those temperatures in Perth last weekend - I canā€™t imagine playing tennis, especially at that level, in those conditions!

I really hate watching Sharapova. Between the noise and the tension, she makes me very uncomfortable.

Thought the Sharapova match would never end. I fell asleep after that with the tv on but kept waking up and hearing bits and bobs of different matches. Will go back this afternoon and watch any interesting ones.

I was glad they finally closed the roof. Just watching the players have to deal with the heat was making me uncomfortable!

Did you get to see Pat and Lleyton, emilybee?

I was really rooting for Knapp in that Sharapova match. She was really giving her all right to the very end.

I too had the TV on and would wake up and watch a little and then fall back to sleep. I couldnā€™t believe the Del Potro match was still on when I woke up at 6am (PST).

ā€œDid you get to see Pat and Lleyton, emilybee?ā€

I certainly did! I woke up a little after 1:30 am and turned on my computer. ESPN3 streams all the TV courts online. Pat looked awesome, his serve as effective as ever and still has great touch at net. Lleyton was the wink link (though Pat struggled on the returns.) After the match Patty gave his usual very cheeky interview.

ESPN2 shows bits and bobs of the match, mostly from the second set, so I got to watch him play again later when I was a tad more awake. :)

Great, emilybee! Pat has always been one of my favorites. I have never been a real LH fan but I was kind of sad that heā€™s out in both singles and doubles. I have to admit heā€™s winning me over a bit, and there are a couple of young Aussie kids who look like theyā€™re ready to step up.

Pat is #1 on my list and because Pat is good mates with LL heā€™s always been on my list, but not in my top ten. Plus, Heā€™s always left everything heā€™s got out on the court and I respect that.

Agree about the young Aussies. I was impressed with Kyrgios, shame he lost that match, but I think he wasted too much energy to have enough in the tank at the end.

I donā€™t know if you got the same commentary I did - it was Kyrgiosā€™ first five set match ever, too.

No we donā€™t get the Aussie broadcast here, but Iā€™m sure our comms mentioned it at some point during their non stop yakfest.

Kyrgios definitely shows a lot of promise - moreso, IMO, then Tomic, whose attitude on and off the court I canā€™t stand. Iā€™d like another Aussie to barrack for.

Yeah, Tomic is a mess, and not winning over fans by appearing not to give a damn. I think the latest injury is real, but the press here compared it to the little boy who cries wolf. I canā€™t stand him.

The other K kid did really well, too, and Jim Courier pointed out that for both it was a good indication of the things they need to work on - not so much the tennis, because both are very capable, but the fitness and conditioning and strength.

Our West Australian Casey Dellā€™acqua is doing great! She didnā€™t wilt in the heat - she says sheā€™s ā€œsolar poweredā€. Nice story.

Very nice to see Casey go so far in her home slam. I didnā€™t see the other Kā€™s match but our comms are also high on him.

Just saw Tomic is having surgery on his hip. But it doesnā€™t matter at this point if heā€™s injured or not - itā€™s his whole attitude about tennis and imo, he just doesnā€™t want to work hard enough.

Some v good menā€™s matches yesterday and friday, but what a disappointment monfils was last night.

Not a fan of the blue Adidas dress/shirt some of the Adidas girls are wearing (Ivanovic, Hantuchova, others). I donā€™t like the loose mesh part on the front.

That being said, Ivanovic would look good in a paper bag. She played an incredible match against Serena.

Agree. Womenā€™s side much more exciting now.

And does Nike sell a dress that doesnā€™t flatter Serena?

Looks like it will actually be a competition on the womenā€™s side for a change.

I thought Anaā€™s dress looked great. Cool and no sweat stains like some I could mention.

Love the Adidas dress Ana is wearing and thrilled she beat Serena. I also liked the blue Lacoste dress Cornet is wearing, and Genie Bouchardā€™s kit. Very different and I donā€™t know if anyone else could pull off the high waistline but it works on her.

Nike needs to rethink their line. Serenaā€™s was awful and donā€™t like Mariaā€™s either.

With her ample rear, I do not understand why Serena wears dresses that fly up exposing the underpants. She should wear a straight skort.
