this is a great thread
xtra, that is a great post
just curious if they are informative vs evaluative
Is something wrong if I havenāt been contacted for an interview?
Thanks for the compliments I have interview with Case today.
I had my first interview today! Do I send a thank you letter by email or by normal mail?
xtra, how was the interview. Iāve visited but not interviewed. Iām applying for PPSP which requires a special interview if Iām a finalist, so I figure thereās no point in interviewing twice.
username10: I think mailing a thankyou card hand-written is the best way to go, but for my last interview I just sent an e-mail. I got a reply from one interviewer but not the other one. Iām afraid it may have ended up in junkmail folder
username10,
If you had an alumni interview, I suggest the email. It depends on the school and the interviewer, but many of us who conduct alumni interviews try to complete our reports within a couple of days. A hand-written note would probably arrive too late to be considered.
What if I had an interview with an admissions officer?
if itās an admissions officer, what do i thank them for? doing their job? it feels a little weird iāll admit.
Thank them for taking the time to talk to you. Tell them what you learned about the college, and how you think it will be a great fit for you. This shouldnāt be that hard.
Hmmmm. . . I had an interview in June, and then I was a camp counselor at a resident camp all summer. Not really able to send a thank you. Then I kind of. . . forgot? Now Iām worried!
iām gonna bump what jackson saidā¦i interviewed at Bowdoin and Bates this fall and the interviews were really laid back. both were given by seniors at the schools, who asked a lot about my hobbies and passions and what my highschool was like. they want a mix of open-minded thinkers. my bates interviewer asked me, āwhat is that you know you donāt know that you want to know?ā. quite an interesting question, which definitely made me wrinkle my nose a bitā¦he had wanted to know what class i would take on a topic i knew nothing about, and was impressed that i actually understood what he was saying. i prepared by reading up about each of the colleges, but mostly by being myself. the best part was that they didnt put me on the spot with current events or whoās your muse questions. i wouldnt have done anything differently; i had two solid interviews.
I have my USC interview on Dec 9th. Has anyone interviewed with them yet? Seattle is one of their last āstopsāā¦ Let me know what kind of questions they asked, etc.
Iāll be interviewing with a business admissions officer.
I had my pomona interview a couple of days ago. It didnāt go so well.
Alumni: āWhat other extra curriculars do you have?ā
Me: āI worked at __. I really enjoy ā blah blah blah
Alumni: interruption āOh. If itās not something significant like a national award, then itās not worth mentioningā
ouch. There were other things he said that really offended me, but this one hit me hard.
evening: holy crap you have got to be kidding me. how many students get national awards?
This guy must have been in a spiteful mood. I would consider writing a letter to admissions
Wow. Yeah, I would write a letter, Evening! You should make the admissions office aware of this. First, this guy should not do any more interviews. Second, they should realize how rude he was to you, and maybe their knowledge will balance out any negative comments that he may have made about you. Also, maybe they will let you do another interview.
I have a question. How should you answer āTell me about yourselfā. Iām trying to prepare and have looked over so many questions and this is the hardest for me. What do they really want to know with this?
itās pretty straightforward goalie, and you can approach it in a number of ways. Describe a quality about yourself, or an activity you are passionate about, or a significant event or part of your life history or cultural background. for me, I would talk about how I am an analytical math nerd and yet I love being creative and writing poetry.
Yeah, I would have to say the question is pretty easy to answer. What I start with is my excurricular activities and some words about my personality. I believe they just want to know about your life outside of school/work, something about your āinner selfā that apps and test scores cannot say.
