haha thanks since theyâre pre-apps, they ended up being very casual and about half an hour
accept, my D had several eval interviews this summer. She wore capri pants, a nice shirt and nice flipflops. She seemed right in line with others; comfortable and well-groomed. I was surprised how casual some people were, but very few were really more dressed up.
I wore a polo + dark jeans + brown flats, I wore flip flops if I was doing a tour and changed into the flats for an interview (small enough to be portable), and at Yale I felt a bit underdressed (I saw a lot of heels, black pants, dresses, etcâŠeekâŠthough honestly I thought they were a bit overdressed) but those were pre-apps, I probly wouldnât wear jeans at a more serious evaulative interview. khakis or cords + a nice shirt shoudl be fine. i wouldnt do flip flops though
Would it be too dressy for a girl wear a formal tux jacket, a formal button-down long sleeve shirt, and dress pants/skirt?
What can you bring to the interview? can you bring any supplemental materials to show what you;ve done. ex. like a newspaper article that you were featured in.
Yes, you can.
I brought my resume and unofficial transcript to every one of my interviews. The interviewer always took it, and sometimes they even looked at it then.
Iâve had three interviews⊠I didnât dress up all that much-- black jeans, turtleneck or nice t-shirt (oxymoron, I know). But they were for Reed, Wesleyan and Beloit⊠I didnât feel uncomfortable.
Eh. As to the interviews themselves, if anyone else is interviewing with Beloit, Iâd be interested to hear their take on it. I absolutely hated it. I wanted to give the guy a negative critique at the end, but I decided it might not be a good idea. Supposedly it was an evaluative interview, but he just kept rattling on and on about the school, and all of it was stuff I could easily find out on the internet. Plus he lied about the town of Beloit (referred to it as a âcityâ- haha) and kept blathering on about how Beloit wants us to make the application our own/make it personal when the interview was possibly the most impersonal experience of my life. It turned me off the school so much I donât think Iâm gonna applyâŠ
In contrast, Reed was amazing. It was my first interview, but I felt incredibly comfortable. I really liked the guy who interviewed me, and I got to talk about all sorts of random stuff. I also liked Wesleyan, but it couldnât compare to ReedâŠ
D had interview at WF yesterday and was extremely nervous. She had difficulty putting thoughts together b/c of this. How much do the schools take into account nerves? [Tests scores are good so it shows she is intellegent] Also, b/c she was so stressed she didnât get name of interviewer for thank you note to follow up. Should she send a note to admissions without designating agent? This is her first choice school so she is worried.
I contacted my alumni interviewer by email and he hasnât emailed me back. Iâm not sure if I should call him or send him another email. I just really donât want to be too imposing but its almost been a week already! The school says its interviews are evaluative too so I really need this interview. Any suggestions?
I have my MIT interview tomorrow!~ I have no idea what to expect.
Iâm supposed to bring âa parent, a one page resume and list of activities, a long list of questions about college and MIT.â I dunno if that means that my parent will actually STAY or whatâŠ?
is it OK to wear shoes that arenât, like, dress shoes to an interview at Wesleyan? they wouldnât really go with my outfit and itâs kind of not what I would wear normally anyway.
ok, I wore sneakers and still felt overdressed, haha. wes interviews are pretty laid-back. be prepared to have to guide a lot of it yourself, though.
Do interviews come before or after applying regular decision?
âŠSo I didnât have my interview 'cause I had food poisoning and threw up and slept all day.
Sigh. October 10th, here I come!
I would call the admissions office and explain the problem, and they can probably give you the name of the interviewer.
sooâŠ
do interviews come before or after applying?
Sorry⊠it depends.
Have a look at schoolsâ Common Data Set (Google can find it), section C7. If âNot Consideredâ is checked, then it doesnât matter, except if you want to interview to make up your own mind about applying (but some schools donât hold interviews).
But if, e.g., âImportantâ is checked, then you must interview before decisions are made (or risk lowering your chances of acceptance).
Just got back from driving DS to an interview at the Marshall School of Business at USC. He said it went very well, as he met the interviewer last spring during a tour (and she remembered him).
Brought: Resume, a printout of the press coverage on his major EC (have to say this was the deciding factor on booking an interview â this is good stuff they would not otherwise see), transcript, test scores. She took it all and it was a good springboard for discussion.
Wore: Slacks, real shoes, dress shirt and tie. Originally thought the tie may be too much, but in retrospect thought it was good. Certainly overdressed in comparison to the students, but in line w/ the dress in the office and the dress of the students giving tours.
^ I have discovered that the best way to ensure you are not over/under dressed is to have an internship. That way, you can go to interviews right after working, and if you are overdressed, just mention that you came right from your internship.
