<p>Glad to see Cal Tech (#1) and UC Berkeley (#10) high on the list.</p>

<p>Hard to comment – Very few in the US would think that University of Washington (Washington State) #25 is a better school than Brown #49. But that’s the fun of any ranking system (including, if not especially, USN&WR).</p>

<p>As Mark Twain (or perhaps Disaelli ) is reputed to have said: “There are lies, damnable lies and statistics.”</p>

It also says University of Washington is better than Northwestern, Rice, WashU, USC, and Emory.</p>

<p>Heck, the University of Pittsburgh is ranked way higher than Rice.</p>

<p>The algorithm for this list is downright awful. Nobody in his right mind would rank US universities in this order.</p>
