I have recently graduated in electronics engineering. I would like to pursue my masters degree specifically in software engineering in the USA. I would like to know the top 5 colleges that are renowned in this field. Not computer science or computer engineering. Just software engineering. Thanks

It really depends on what you’re looking for. #1 is MIT, #2 is Stanford, #3 is UC Berkeley, #4 Georgia Tech and #5 is Urbana Champaign and CalTech. Depending on where you graduate and how much money you really want to spend, anything is open if you graduated from a 3rd Tier school with straight A’s, etc…

Those colleges are not known for software engineering in particular just computer engineering. I do know that carnegie mellon is the best when it comes to software engineering. I just want to know the rest of the top 4.

Those schools are good computer science schools and good computer engineering schools. If you go to on of them, you will be well off. My CS friends at my school, Urbana-Champaign, have gotten internships with Google, Facebook, Amazon and other big names. Very good opportunities.

No thanx. i will just stick with software engineering and nothing else.

You don’t need to be in the T5 CS schools to get recruited by the major companies. For example, Michigan, the school I’m at currently, is clearly not T5 in CS but still gets heavily recruited by MSFT, and arguably by FB, GOOG, APPL, AMZN, and etc.

I would think that the schools mentioned above are in the T5 if not very close to T5 depending on the year of rankings. Cornell is sometimes up there as well, though the school is basically at least 2 hours from civilization in any direction you go.

Everlastin, what do you mean no thanx? Those schools are not begging you to come. Plus you need their industry relations to start your career. Your software skills will not get you anywhere on your own. And dont underestimate caltech’s software eng program. Cheers.
